You clearly misunderstood my post. My post wasnt intended to 'prevent' a GB from happening. All I'm saying is that I'm happy to support small companies like this, that create audio software that easily beats the 'big commercial companies' out there. The previous poster made it look like nobody wants to pay the full price, I totally disagreed with him, hence my post. Just stating my opinion, which is as valid as yoursyairhol wrote:trying to prevent a GB from happening

Yeah, right. Massive,Zebra2 i'm sure there's plenty more.thespecialist wrote: I don't think there's any VST out there that takes advantage of low level SSE instructions for example.

Do you have proof of that ? Any statement from U-HE for example ? I really doubt it. I'm in the software business myself (financial software) and I know how software gets developed and how difficult it is to go low level. And it's not just the difficulty, the reason why bigger companies wont bother to optimze as much as Lennard did, is because they want 'product throughput'. They want the product to be ready ASAP, so they can sell it and then the next one ready ASAP again. Optimization costs time, costs money, exactly like Lennard also stated. And again, THAT's why I'm happy to support companies like his, that actually BOTHER to optimze instead of maximizing product througput.jupiter8 wrote:Yeah, right. PolyAna uses SSE2. DiscoDSP Discovery as well.

Antti's ASynthThrough careful optimization in key elements of the DSP code using SSE/Altivec instructions the CPU-usage has been reduced by a significant amount.

Of course using SSE could be nothing more than turning on the SSE switch in MSVC for example but that don't help performance much in my experience. To remove the nagscreen and enable SSE optimizations, donate.
It's not that hard to do stuff in SSE.
EDIT: Mystran did a reverb in 16 hours i believe that is free non the less that uses SSE. I don't know if it was just a compiler switch but it does'nt seem like it.

I stand corrected ! I hadn't read about SSE optimisations in other VST's yet, but obviously there are more VST's that have this, thanks for noting this.
Anyway, I've made my point, I'll leave this thread to the Groupbuy discussion
True, but we'll assume that they did more than that (otherwise it wouldnt make much sense indeed). Anyway, there are other VST's out there, well optimized and low on CPU, but I love the combo of high sound quality and high cpu optimization, in my opinion Sylenth1 beats every other synth out there at both. For example, I also like Rob Papen's 'Blue', soundwise, but it's just a little TOO silky imho AND it is a CPU hog compared to Sylenth1. Others are low on CPU (like Zebra) but just don't sound as good.jupiter8 wrote:Of course using SSE could be nothing more than turning on the SSE switch in MSVC for example but that don't help performance much in my experience.

I didn't want to wait longer for a group buy so I purchased Sylenth yesterday. So please, no group buy during the next 3 month please...
Thank you Lennard for that great synth!

From a buisness perspective i think a GB is a pretty crap move. Just look at the GB hell another company is in. Noone buys unless there's a GB for ridiculous prices. A big one on launch to get some buzz ,initial cashflow and userbase and then never again. Plus it'll alienate the early adopters. Why did they get it for x-50$ when i had to pay x dollars ?

the market is oversaturated meanwhile and i suppose a lot of devs will drop the prices in the long run like NI have done yet.

I agree.mellotronaut wrote:the market is oversaturated meanwhile and i suppose a lot of devs will drop the prices in the long run like NI have done yet.
Apple Logic is another example. Koblo Centaurus is less than 8 USD. Wusikstation is another example for low price. It seems there will be an offer for buying Cakewalk Dimension Pro and Rapture for 99 USD. And z3ta is sold in German stores for 79 EUR. Keytosound lowered all prices. Waves has a 20% off on selected products every month. There are special offers from BIAS too. Arturia is offering 2 plugs if you buy 1. Some payware became freeware in the last days...
The music software market is full of promotions, discounts, group buys, crossgrade offers...
A general drop in price is imo highly probable.

From the customers' perspective it is a very beneficial move.
It is also very beneficial for the developer in the long run. Otherwise no business would have special sale times. And actually almost all businesses have sales at holidays and/or other times.
