I made a MUX patch containing an instance of RMIV (multitimbral/multi-out drumsampler) feeding into four racks all going into a master rack.

Loading the patch crashes MU.LAB every time but, strangely, opening the project I did it in works fine!

I don't think it's any of the plug-ins or effects contained in the MUX patch (RMIV, mda effects) but rather the way in which the racks are laid out or how many racks there are.

Will do some more testing on the morrow. I'll also upload the project file.

Nite :D

I retested with the latest Beta C (dated today). Still crashes but at a different point when exiting.

I also tested these hosts and none ever crashed.

Fruity Loops 8.0 - Loads as an insert and allows multi-timbral support from any midi channel. Note that FL uses there own wrapper to convert from FL to VST.

Reaper v2.106 - Loads easily and supports multi-channel input from other tracks as a single instance.

Sony Acid Studio 7.0 - Was the easiest to use in a single instance from any track in Acid. Just select as the output.

Cakewalk Music Creator 3.0 - A little more trouble to set up, but also works as a single instance. Cakewalk also uses a DXi->VSTi wrapper, but it works.

I tried to load ProteusVX into Band In A Box, but it would not play. But PG Music stuff doesn't work well with any VST.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a demo version of Proteus VX.

So the only thing i can do is email EMU and ask for a NFR, which i've done.

New theory about the MUX crash:

MUX crashes if a a rack contains an effect and then feeds into another rack.

http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/5/13/ ... l_fine.Mux

Step 1: Load the MUX patch. It should work ok.

Step 2: insert a VST effect into one of the four racks that are feeding into Rack 5 and save the patch under a new name.

Step 3: MU.LAB should now crash whenever you attempt to load your new MUX patch.

The project in which you saved the new patch should still open fine.

The issue seems to be with the racks themselves - connecting effect isn't a problem.

In general though - with all the connectibility and mixer strips and whatnot in the MUX, do we really need racks on top of that? Possibly, rather than fixing the bug it would be better not to have racks in MUX at all?

Marco :)

Yes, we need racks because racks are EASY!

Ah, but you mean racks within the MUX, right?

Well, i'll first research that issue now...

Proteus VX was just recently released as freeware. here is the link from a previous post ...

This crash occurs repeatedly when exiting MuLab after using Proteus VX

It is released as a standalone and as a VSTi. The installation includes a whopping 1024 samples - the Composer bank - which is accessible from the VSTi. It also comes complete with a detailed Manual.

IMHO some of the drum kits are really neat.

Oh! Definitely! Nah, racks themselves are a good thing to have.
Well, i'll first research that issue now...
Cool! I don't think it's a problem with any particular plugin. Seems to happen with all of mine.

Yes, could reproduce it here.

It was a bug in mulab. Fixed in the next version!

pljones wrote:Oh, I keep forgetting to mention this one. Minor irritant but it's weird. After using MULAB for a while and switching between apps with alt-tab, MULAB eventually disappears. This happens sooner if VST windows are open. You can still click on it in the task bar but it's not there in the alt-tab list.
I think it's when there is a modal window in MU.LAB.

Found a crash bug, very probably this one.

Fixed in the next version.
