DXI Manager can't read registry

I tried using the DXI Manager but got error message saying "Error while reading windows registry, please check that you have admin rights". Subsequently when the Manager appeared, it was blank (had no entries).
I do indeed have admin rights.
Also I seem to have installed your software to more than one folder (as described below). Please do you have any advice on how best to clean that up?
Background:
I am running the latest update (apart from IE7) of Windows XP on an Athlon and have Vegas 7 (the first Vegas ever installed). Yesterday I updated it to version 7d and then installed your BlueCat freeware packs (both DX and VST, as I have both kinds of application on my PC, though primarily I want it for Vegas). Subsequently I noticed that I had previously installed just the freeware Digital Peak Meter (I had forgotten that). Now I have all yesterday-installed BlueCat-ware in "C:\Program Files\Blue Cat Audio\DXPlugins" and also the previously installed Peak Meter in "C:\Program Files\Blue Cat\DXPlugins". Please is there a way to clean up that situation? Note there is no "Audio" in the previous install folder name. The install-paths were the defaults in each case. Yesterday I also installed the DXI Manager into "C:\Program Files\Blue Cat Audio\DXI Manager", where it now languishes...
Many thanks for any help

Hi,
thank you for your feedback. About the DXi manager, we'll verify this issue asap and maybe send you a specific version to check what could be wrong with your system.
For the Blue Cat's Digital Peak Meter, what you can do is just uninstall it (from the add/remove programs page in Windows control panel), and reinstall it whith a different path (you can choose the install path during the installation procedure). The path is different because the Digital Peak Meter (freeware) was released some time ago and has not been updated yet.

Can you check that the following registry key exists in your system? (open the "execute" window from the start menu and type "regedit" in)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MfxSoftSynths\
Is there anything in it?

I have not done an uninstall/reinstall yet. Is that ok?
Yes the key exists. It says Type=REG_SZ and Data=(value not set).
Under this key is a set of pseudo-random (GUID?) keys.

I looked at the pseudo-random number keys and they turned out to be as follows. I have copied the exact phrase of each one as far as possible (retyped here):

Blue Cat Stereo Flanger
Blue Cat FrequencyAnalyst
Blue Cat Chorus (Mono)
Blue Cat Gain (Stereo)
Blue Cat Phaser (Mono)

Blue Cat Widening Gain

Yes, to make it short, that's where DXi plugins have to register in order to be recognized as such. What is strange is that the DXi Manager does not seem to be able to access these keys on your machine.
Contact me by Private Message and give me your email address, I'll send you a modified version to get more information about why it does not work on your machine.

Same message about registry and admin rights here. Would love to be able to get this lil program to work. Any suggestions?Blue Cat Audio wrote:Yes, to make it short, that's where DXi plugins have to register in order to be recognized as such. Any fixes yet?

Hi,
we have been investigating about this problem, but since we cannot reproduce it on any of our machines it's a bit tricky. Would you be interested in helping us finding the issue? In this case we can send you a special version with debug information to help us find out what happens on your system.

I would be interested in helping. I've heard only good things about these plug-ins so I'm anxious to try them out on my projects. What do I need to do?

Hi,
can you PM me your email address so that we can send you a debug version to get more information about what's happening on your system? For the moment we have not yuet been able to precisely diagnose the issue because we do not have enough data on the problem.
BTW which host application do you use? Most of recent hosts now either properly support DXi or have VST built-in. You might be able to use our plugins without having to deactivate their MIDI capabilities.

We have just sent you an email with a special debug version of the software.
Maybe you can also try the following procedure that worked for some of our customers:
- unzip the files
- right click on the Blue Cat DXi Manager.exe file
- Open the Properties panel
- In the Properties panel/General tab, unblock the file:

When you download a file, windows blocks some features of executable files. Unblocking it can fix your problem (depending on the rights setup on your machine).
