Excellent!

The synth part starting at 00:20 maybe should be a little less brittle and more muffled like a sax and maybe try the vocal 1-track, stark and plain against the backing.. maybe a touch of 1 repeat longish delay. I'd like it to be more Rod Sterling if you know what I mean? Or not.. It's fine as is.. :D
Hey Tom -- glad you dig it mate :)
I like it a lot! It's coool...
Not sure what you mean by "vocal 1-track". Do you mean mono or center-extracted perhaps?
It sounds like you double tracked the vocal and they don't really line up well. [edit] on closer listen I guess it's a short delay/chorus..?

Check Meri Wilson's vocal on Telephone man.

Telephone man - Meri Wilson

What did you listen through mate? :hyper:
My old Mags. They're really good!
Rod Sterling? Not really sure who that is -- sorry.
Twilight Zone? A normal guy in a weird place..

Twilight Zone intro.

Right!

Good call! It is/was a 3rd I sang and ran into a Waves 4-voice Doubler. I was experimenting with doing something weird/different with it rather than just letting it be a standard harmony. I got a similar comment from a friend here on the original version years ago. If you have the time, listen to the original version and you can hear it a lot clearer. For this remaster, I backed that track down a bit. Now I'm thinking I'll dump it altogether.

Bwahahaha!! You mean Rod Serling. (I should have made the connection) :hihi: That was probably the first guitar riff I ever learned on my 20 quid Hagström Glitter Guitar!

 Yeah me too Ventures style. That and Johnny Rivers' Secret agent man. I can still play a pretty mean Secret Agent. :hihi:

Anyway thanks again for the tune. It reminded me of the Twilight Zone theme for some reason.

Someone did a song -- maybe it was the ventures -- called 'Outer Limits' which actually started off with the Twilight Zone riff circa '61 - '62?

Yeah for sure -- the horn part is similar in feel to the brass in that theme. I love that sound truly :tu:

Take a movie like 2001: Space Odyssey and the scene when Bowman is entering Jupiter's atmosphere (entitled 'Jupiter And Beyond'), we hear the incredible, stunning brass & string composition by Gyorgy Ligeti (one of my many ispirations). There is simply no way I would enjoy hearing that replaced with synthesizers. To me it's WAY more chillingly surreal and emotive to hear natural instruments taken to such inventive extremes than any synth preset could do -- IMHO (tho I love and use many synths for various purposes).

But I also love to take my scores and hear musicians play and interpret what I've composed -- this song can be played live by a seven piece jazz ensemble more or less exactly as I have recorded it here including the Chinese percussion (the variable being the room or hall versus my VST verbs). Just to hear any ad-libs and embellishments by creative players is way cool to me (when indeed that happens at all). :hihi:

Anyway -- nice chatting with you after such a long spell! Thanks for your input my mate! :)

Cheers,

Great sounds, crazy composition. Very arty work. I have forgotten how much i can find I miss if i play the music tracker for a couple of hours.
Sounds good on my Event's. Very clear and a great stereo image.

Hey Jazzyspoon! Thanks bro! :hyper:

That's the kind of feedback I was looking for here. So far it seems the remastering paid off. It's always great to get opinions here from people who know music.

Cheers Mate & Thanks for your listening time! :tu:

Listening on the Blumenstein Ultra-Fi custom Sonic Sentries speakers (running through some shitty amps while I wait for the custom amp to get done). ;)

I listened to both the old master and the new one. I like the new one a lot better. The bass seems to be under control a lot better and everything sounds a lot clearer. The vocal also doesn't seem so boomy anymore either, fitting in better with the relaxed feel of the track.

It sounds like everything moved in the right direction but most of my other comments would be on the mix rather than the master. :)

Blumenstein Ultra-Fi custom Sonic Sentries speakers! :-o

Thanks for taking the time to listen to both versions and technically compare! :hyper:

You might understand how great it is to know you're making progress in mastering -- I have never really had the golden ear when it comes to mastering and no doubt the reason is live gigging in front of Marshall stacks for decades... :hihi:

Recently I listened to two of my songs that were recorded and mastered (by me) about a month apart -- they were so totally different in quality I almost threw my DAW out the window...

So, last month I sat me down to try and see if I could achieve a better quality and learn to use some hearing compensation, and it's great to know I appear to be making some progress there.

Cheers & Thanks again mate,

ok I can stream the 128 Kbps but not the other one, <sigh>

I'd be honoured to sing on any of your songs my old friend -- you need but ask -- anytime!

That remaster is around 3Mb, but, if that's not a problem for you, I can email it to you if you wish :)

Well, keep up the good work: mastering is tricky business, but that's why I count on Kilroy at Headroom Productions. :)

The Sonic Sentries are really nice and I've been very happy with them ever since I got them. I hear they pale in comparison to the Feastrex drivers that Clark Blumenstein helps work on these days, but I don't have $60,000 to spend on the drivers, let alone the rest of the cabinet and assembly for those speakers...

Thanks Alex, <grin>
