I just put up a track called "The Road Behind" on my Myspace player that was done with 26 instances of Zebra, a couple of vocal tracks, and a few additional effects plugins - that's all. Zebra is doing everything, including the rhythm tracks. I used a variety of patches from Howard, Michael, beej, Adam, and Urs, as well as a couple of sounds I rolled myself using the Microwave/Prophet VS wavetables provided by suthnear. The vocoded textures were done with a supersaw-type Zebra patch run through the ELS Vocoder. I had been thinking about doing a track with nothing but Zebra for a while, and on this particular song it worked out for me.

Nice job! :tu:

I really like the production job you did on this - tastefully done. Vox are nicely done too... Very cool!

Thanks very much for the kind words, beej. I'm sure you probably recognized your "Port Authority" patch starting things off.

I've said in the past that Zebra is one of the most mix-friendly synths I've ever used, and I always seem to have an easier time mixing tracks that are done predominantly with Z2. It lends itself well to the smoother, less ear-fatiguing kinds of mixes I prefer.

That patch is interesting actually - and I always enjoy naming patches to get some hidden references in to some of my favourite stuff. ;)

I'm a big fan of film music, and I always really loved Thomas Newman's stuff - the soundtrack to Desperately Seeking Susan being one of them. I did a patch for my XV-5080 called "Port Authority" to be a similar sound as used for that part of the film, and then redid another version for Zebra, which is quite different to the 5080 patch, but has some similarities.

And yes, I know what you mean about Zebra being mix friendly... I like doing single-instrument tracks, I find them a useful exercise in learning an instrument and pushing it in directions you might not ordinarily go.

But anyway - nice track!

That's quite a nice job on this track, David (and I really like your voice, too). Fwiw, listened to the other tracks on your MySpace site as well - really good stuff you've got! Very tasty arrangements and selections of sounds. Some fine mixing too, as it seems.

Have a look here...

Tactless

I'd say about 85% of the sound sources are Zebra, 9 or 10 instaces. Plus a bunch of MFM2.

Thanks for listening. :)

Excellent all the way round: songs, sounds, arrangement and mix. Good stuff on all the pieces. Hope to hear more from you.

A belated thank you to Sascha and Bobbotov for checking out the track and for the kind words (sorry, I hadn't noticed your posts until now).

Nice job on your pieces as well, Justin and Zircon. It's always interesting to hear how different people using the same tool will come out with such radically different-sounding tracks and gravitate to their own favorite aspects of Zebra's very broad palette.

I could not find the song on your page... Does it require one to have a myspace page?

I've just finished a track. It's kind of old skool electro-funk meets tech-house/ with a touch of breaks flavour thrown in for good measure. Apart from the percussion and some external fx (delay and reverb), it's all Zebra (14 different patches, I think - all Howard's).

I've uploaded it to myspace: Funk Synthetique

The mix is probably not up to much, compounded by the myspace compression, which has extracted a lot of clarity and punch, but anyway...

[EDIT] The super fat bass that dominates the track is a tweaked version of Michael Kastrup's 'Boogie Down Bass' (I think that's what it's called?). My favourite bass patch. It really captures that fat moog boogaloo sound - lovely.

title 6 of the new release of protonica (AP Records) is remixed with zebras and endless mfm delays. (bass, lead, pads,fx)

This months' competition entry uses Zebra for all its synthetic sounds.

Awesome track.

Sounds kind of depeche mode/tears for fears, and I mean that in a good way.
