User Interface

I thought I re-open the topic again.

The one aspect is the usability of the layout.
The other aspect is simply if it looks "nice" or not.

While I am still hoping for the AU version being ready once I get a Mac I wonder if there is a chance to have the complete interface on one single page.
That could be switched in the plug-in's options and I suppose that others with 24" screens would probably like it aswell.

As far as "looking nice" I think Sylenth already has one of the best looking interfaces compared to a lot of other synths. Regarding the usability I can't understand how anyone gets confused. There are so many synths out there that have multiple pages, usually over four. Sylenth only has two, and a lot of the presets only use one, part A. So in other words, for anyone that can't get past having another 2 oscillators and a filter, don't use them until you figure out the first two on part A.

Sylenth is pretty easy.

I would just prefer to have it all on one page. It's not a problem on a big screen.

In general I was a bit surprised that it wasn'T the effects section that is on another page. That would have been the most obvious.

I don't like the looks at all but I'm almost certain that I will buy Sylenth once I got a Mac.
I will have have to have to create a few sounds of my own with the demo of 2.0 instead of just checking the presets before I know how much I like it but the fact that I don't like how it looks won't keep me from buying it if I think it's a good tool.

And I don't think I will buy Circle although the user interface is great in terms of usability and it doesn't look bad.
But sound comes first for me and the usability of Sylenth is OK.
I don't think I'll get eye-cancer from its looks ;)

Logic's ES2 for example looks stylish but the fonts are too small for me.
I'd rather have a GUI like Massive which doesn't look like a design object.
I like the sound of ES2 though.

I am a pretty new Sylenth user (in fact just bought it yesterday AM). I spent most of yesterday afternoon and evening programming sounds on it (plus the time I spent messing with the demo). I think that the interface is very easy to use. Just consider the fact that the manual is only about 35 pages and pretty darned comprehensive. My only nit-pick would be that I think it would be nice to be able to enter parameters numerically into the LCD display (click knob or slider to display parameter value in the display, then edit/change the numerical value in the display).

I agree that would be a nice addition.

But I would also prefer to have all OSCs on one page and most practically on the same side of the panel.
That would make finetuning (detune for instance) more enjoyable.
I don't think that it is complicated with the current panel - there is no real problem the way it is.
I am just making the proposal because I find it would improve the interface.

Here's a Photoshop file with GUI elements typical for the iPhone (it's not a copy of the files from an iPhone which would be copyrighted).

Looking at these might give some inspiration for nice new GUIs ... or not. ;)
It's up to you.

Sylenth 1 GUI is ok, reminds me of the microkorg somehow.

Post

Yep, it doesn't really remind me of anything in particular, but I think it's one of the best GUI's. What I don't understand though is how people think it's horrible. There are GUI's out there that are FAR worse. Some people also complain out the different parts... all that part B is, is another 2 osc and filter. Part B isn't even necessary for a lot of patches.

From my point of view the interface of Sylenth is clear and easy to use. The knobs and sliders are big enough to grab them easily with the mouse. I hate GUIs with teeny-weeny knobs. Although many knobs and sliders are on the screen I can easily find my way through them. It has to do with the way they are arranged. Unlike Albino3 or Z3ta. Their GUI looks cool in the first place but is confusing when it comes to work. (I tested the demos).

The look of Sylenth is that from the good old analog synths. I like it but an alternative skin with a modern design would be nice. I am interested in graphics and so this is my interpretation of a modern skin. :D

Better without gradients don't you think?

Maybe you can tweak it in this direction:
