Beginner questions about Mulab

Is Mulab compatible with the M-Audio Fast Track? When I right click on the record button, its not showing it in either of the inputs.
Second question: Can I use drum samples (snare, kick drum) in Mulab, just cutting and pasting them for ideas for songs? What format should they be? How would I go about importing them in to Mulab?
Thanks in advance for any information?

MU.LAB uses ASIO. Does the M-Audio Fast Track have an ASIO driver? Or is it a USB MIDI interface? If so, it'll appear as "USB Audio Device" unless it has its own driver.
Using MU.LAB 2, you can use samples in Sampla or MultiSampla. I believe WAV, AIFF and OGG are supported but don't quote me on that. Maybe FLAC? (Anyway, if they're not now, we can moan at Jo to get them in
.)
You can right click a track and add an Audio Sequence, which could be a single hit. Then you can re-use that sequence anywhere you like in that Composition. That's probably fastest for what you're after.
In MU.LAB 2 you can also use Sampla and MultiSampla to do more fun things with samples.

Nice, thanks for the info. It is a USB Audio Device. I believe it came with its own driver. My computer recognizes it as Fast Track. Would I still need an ASIO driver?
How would you load a sample into that Audio Sequence?
Thanks again!

If it's for audio, then yes, it's got to have ASIO or MU.LAB won't see it.
Argh, I got that wrong last time on adding a sequence - too late at night
. Draw in a new Part with the pencil tool. When it asks "Sequence Part" or "Audio Part", select "Audio Part". You can then pick a file you're already using (if there is one loaded) or find one on your system.
Once you have the audio file loaded, right-click the Part, open the Part menu and choose "Play Entire File". This will set the size of the Part to the length of the sample. You can then Ctrl+Drag to copy the Part to wherever you want the hit to play.
If you want to change the sample in the Part (e.g. an alternate hit), click the part, then use the player panel (top of screen, right hand side). Where it lists the current sample, click the name then select the alternate or Browse to load a new one.

Ok, Im almost there. I downloaded the driver from M-Audios site for my OSX. Is that the ASIO that I need? Now when I try and record audio, it says either "Recording too Silent -59.2, or -16.7". I know its something stupid so I figure asking on here will still be faster than me trying to figure it out. Thanks alot for all the help so far!!!

ASIO is only for Windows.Myearshurt wrote:Ok, Im almost there. I downloaded the driver from M-Audios site for my OSX. Is that the ASIO that I need?
On OSX all audio devices work with a Core Audio driver.
Are you sure you're getting an audio signal into MU.LAB?Now when I try and record audio, it says either "Recording too Silent -59.2, or -16.7". I know its something stupid so I figure asking on here will still be faster than me trying to figure it out. Thanks alot for all the help so far!!!
If you right-click the Record button, you have a bunch of record options.
There you can also try to monitor the audio input thru a Rack and see whether the level meters are moving.
