Is Tracktion now an orphan?

Fixing existing issues is obviously important, but from the OP and other comments made at this point, surely the question is whether there will be further enhancements/additions/versions and continuing development, not just properly sorting out the existing product?

I'm ashamed to admit it, but what is a collection-clip? Do you mean a foldertrack?independentfactory wrote:Melodyman, I agree with you. - cut and past of a collection clip can cause a poof crash

Not necessarily. They could be using their own customised fork of Juce, the same way Cycling74 do.metamorphosis wrote:The GUI is JUCE, which Jule's still develops, so any slowdowns etc that result from that are predominantly his fault rather than Mackie's guys.

I don't think so, but I don't want to go into details because of some fact involving me and Mackie. For this matter the transfer to Mackie has been a great thing since it happened.
Just like You, oxbee, I've been using trackers intensively in past (various adlib trackers, MTM, ST3, IT, ZT, Buzz, etc.), You made an interesting point - maybe I like Tracktion workflow because of similarity with trackers, too.
I have problems with it with running on two completly different PCs. If I had a problem running just one PC, I would probably not discuss the problems so relentlessly.Maybe because I'm a PC user I don't have any problems, really.

Yeah, if you have a bunch of "clips" or blocks in tracks contained by a folder track, the idea is that the manipulation of the block on the folder track itself, manipulates the blocks on the tracks contained in the folder track.MelodyMan wrote:I'm ashamed to admit it, but what is a collection-clip? Yes. I agree. I've actually been on a new DAW search myself. Tracktion was the ONLY DAW I could wrap my head around and I feel comfy with it, I just feel like it's starting to feel a bit stale.
I actually LOVED T2 and after waiting with baited breath was quite dissapointed by what Mackie decided to offer us with T3. I've downloaded the T3 demo a few times, but it never seemed to really offer me anything profoundly usefull or even fun, so I never bothered to upgrade. I was a bit surprised that they made all this fuss over loops.
If you're really a loop based music creator, you're going to have Live anyway. I have Live, and NEVER use it, because it is so loop centric and that's just not my bag. I'm damn glad I resisted the urge to upgrade to T3 just because, as the list of bugs in T3 that never seem to get fixed seems to grow every time I check these forums.
My disgust with Tracktion is that it seems to take forever to load up AND I get such crappy performance with just a few midi tracks. I'm using more VSTI's these days and Tracktion just seems to get so bogged down. It's really starting to annoy me. I also wish the GUI would get some freshening. I'd really like more track color choices, instrument icons/pics and maybe a little dimensional shading and what not. Forgive me, but the Garage Band/Logic Applesque gui is just so...pleasant. I'm not going to sink wads of cash Apples way just to use one of their apps though.
I've been playing around with that new "Intro DAW" from Steinberg, Sequel and within about three months of hitting the market, they've already updated to version 2. I just downloaded the demo for version two last night. It's actually a very pleasant host, which surprises me, as I've never clicked with Steinberg stuff before. It has the PRO version of Zplanes time stretch technology (which T3 doesn't) and it comes with a massive collection of sounds/instruments/loops and only retails for 99.00!
I really like FL Studio in some ways. It's very snazzy looking and it loads up in a flash. I just hate it's MIDI implementation and some other strange quirks. Pro Tools bores me till no end. That is just about the most DULL GUI I've ever worked on. I can't stare for hours on end at a Pro Tools project. I also really hate that whole "closed system" you must buy and connect our hardware at all times bull shit. I hate closed systems in general, so Digidesign kind of chaps my hide. They do buy up anything out there that's good though. I love Wizoo products and am a proud Wizooverb owner. Digi bought out Wizoo and have them making all of their VSTI's now. That plus some really cool, but PT ONLY plug ins, like Serato P and T make PT very attractive. Aw...hell, perhaps I should just grow up and start drinking the Digi Kool-Aid and fall in line with Pro Tools. At least it's still being worked on and updated and I don't have to explain to anyone what it is and why I use it, like I do with Tracktion.
What else is there? Cubase and Sonar look identical to me. Sound Forge has a typical Sony GUI that looks like a big mess to someone like me with A.D.D.. Reaper just doesn't appeal to me on some level. I was really confounded by the T3 upgrade being something like $130.00! How can the upgrade to T3 be more than what I paid for Tracktion in the first place?
I check the Mackie site from time to time hoping to find news of T4 coming soon! Yet...they still have T3 listed as being NEW!!....What a joke.
I really don't know why Mackie bought this from Raw Material if they weren't going to be dedicated to it. I really just wish they would sell it back to Jules or someone interested in developing Tracktions innate talents. I just wish that it was owned by SOFTWARE people and NOT HARDWARE people! I really feel like Mackie views Tracktion as some kind of afterthought to their "real" business.

This is a long shot, but if you have AVG anti virus installed, go to the Computer Scanner page, click the Tools tab and select Advanced Settings, scroll down to Exceptions and add the path to your vst folder. The slow load up used to drive me up the freakin' wall before reading about this tip, now it loads in seconds.Budbud wrote:My disgust with Tracktion is that it seems to take forever to load up

Didn't hardware company Tascam buy Gigastudio?
Wait another mo'...
Didn't Tascam announce just now that they're giving up on Giga?
Shame when these things happen.

Jules is still developing it, and each new ver gets handed on to the T-team from what I've heard, whyterabbyt wrote:Not necessarily. They could be using their own customised fork of Juce, the same way Cycling74 do.
so there's no good reason to fork it, unless you want to make your code incompatible with future versions.
Either way, with or without extensions the GUI base code is Jule's turf.

Hi Krys,The minority of disappointed peoples
Is it an opinion from statistics?
It was a general fact and it was not here to mean that you're complaining for nothing !
I think Tracktion3 still needs improvements probably because it badly handles advanced requirements that I don't use. Most of the time it is why people are complaining. They speak about thing I never use but I don't think I am a basic user though.
Maybe Tracktion is too basic for some things. Look at MIDI, it's definitely not made to be a MIDI station.
Anyway I made some dozen of works with Tracktion3 so far, and I never had any single issue except with some bad plugins that needed an update to work properly and it never happened with my "high-end" plugins (Blue Tubes 3.0, Kjaerhus, ...)
Also, my audio card has been a M-Audio PCI Audiophile 24/96 for 3 years now and it's all good with it. It's quite a standard model so it could also be a good explanation.
Anyhow, I hope you'll be able to solve your issues because T3 is really an addictive tool to make music. I wandered a long time into the sequencers maze after I "quit" trackers. I found in Tracktion the same direct simplicity and flow that makes you work fast without taking care too much of the technical side.

You are probably using the windows version. I'm on a Mac and the gui is unbearable. I don't need an "advanced" midi editor, just one where I can drag a note and it doesn't take up to 6 seconds(!!!) until it actually moves. The Mac Pro setup at Mackie's booth at this year's Musikmesse behaved the same way, so this must be a general problem with T3 on the Mac. Still, I have read from Mac users here who were content with the midi editor. They might only use the step input or they are so good that they never have to change a note. I don't know. All I know is that T3 from all the hundreds of apps I've used on the Mac (and that includes lots of stuff written in Java) has the worst lagging gui issues.oxbee wrote:

T2 wasn't perfect on the PPC also but the gui worked okay. This is a T3 feature that Mackie screwed up and now aren't able to fix anymore. How sad
