Thanks Tick.... well taking the time to think about it is a good idea... [I think... LOL] like they say, when the problem is really clear, then a good solution will come along...

I surely don't know what is the best way but do know it would be important for it to be working whenever that is possible.

best wishes to you!

Wish:"Global tuning" setting (that will keep same tuning scale for all presets).

P.S.
Thanks to Daniel and KRhen for extra skins.

Overdrive effect

Tick, When working my 2 OSC bank, I was checking out a lot of the effects this time around, and tried the Overdrive. To be very honest, I was not able to use this to any musical degree. I was hoping for a "singing" effect, just like when you take a WAH-WAH pedal into a distortion unit ( talking guitar effects here)and using the low harmonics on the wah-wah, you can produce the "singing" sustaining guitar effect.( like Carlos Santana)Basically a filter into a distortion unit. Cameleon and many synth edit synths can do this. Anyway to modify the overdrive on this to create this singing effect I am talking about? I suppose you could just get a distortion/overdrive plugin right after Rhino ( like CamelPhat) but I was hoping to use the overdrive already there.

my request is for some darker- grittier sounding waveforms. I think that the rhinos modulation capabilities and efx would be ideal for rhodes and wurlitzer waveforms- I could gladly sample my stage 73 and ep 200 if you like. I think some darker waveforms could make this synth even more capable...

back to my envelope editing suggestions, I'd like to point Tick to the free microTera or Tera 2.0 and the way VirSyn presents multi-stage envelopes.

I wouldn't necessarily want the dropdown with the fixed set of envelope choices or perhaps something like that in combination with rhino's ability to add and subtract points, but just graphically I find it much easier to mouse around and drag points on their window -- and it's actually smaller than the rhino envelope window, but I don't have to resize it constantly to see the whole envelope and the points are large enough to select and drag easily.

it's amatter of you know a nice implementation when you use one

Most important to me:

COPY and PASTE just for the step sequencer data from one preset to another!

Another wish: please give the circle pionts of the curves inside the editor windows a different colour so that I can see a distinction between the square points. Or I need new glasses

Agreed.

It's already here: just edit the colors.txt file in the Rhino skin directory, and set a different color for the 3rd item (Curves Middle Point).

Ah, thanx for the tip.
Another wish for the step sequencer: I would like to see a running light when the sequence is active. Then I know which of the notes are wrong.

I found out that the step sequencer doesn't work right, if the number of voices is "1" :!:

i would like to see an "ease of use" addition to the additive wave builder, to make individual bars easier to control. here are some ideas (in order of preference)

(1) a row of 64 on/off buttons, sandwiched between the level and phase bars; and the on/off state gets load/saved with the wave
(2) a mode where you see only 32 of the bars, twice as wide.
(3) a scale and drag mode (similar to that of the osc amp envelop)
(4) a mode where only the bar you click on moves, until you release the button

Unfortunately I don't have access to these synths, could someone elaborate on how they implement envelope editing ?

tim, after much trial/error, i was finally able to get some use of the overdrive. i think the issue is that the slider labels are misleading. try setting them to the opposite of what you think they should be.

i could post a picture of the settings i am using, if that would help. also, it will be available for copy/paste in my upcoming bank (for which i am targeting a 2003 release).

ah good stuff and good idea.... I can smell the next version on the horizion already! and it smells good!

hmmmm that micro terra was a freebie included with some magazines.... I think it could be had Tick if you really need it to see what is being said.... of course the demos should help also....

I just have to add that running Rhino [or anything else for that matter] inside Chainer, would be a great way for a developer to come up with ideas for additions.... what I'm saying is that it is a very fast way to see how various FX put after the main VSTi can cause changes, and then, IF one loves the changes, ideas of how to build them into the main VSTi could follow..... just a thought.... the Chainer demo is free and would work fine for this purpose.... it can be found at: www.xlutop.com

...right Tim? %^)

oh and a last thought that has been bugging me...

I think it would be kewl if there were a set of banks that took the existing presets and organized them into banks such as:

Rhino Leads
Rhino Pads ONE
Rhino Pads TWO
Rhion Effects
....etc, etc... you see what I'm thinking?

in other words, with the banks we have now, the leads and pads and 'special effects' are all intermingled in each bank.... right?

So if there could be just a secondary organization, I would think it would be VERY useful.

peace and love

on using overdrive --

to initialize, set the drive on full and the gain on 20%. then, set both Q's to 70% and both cutoffs to 50%. (if you've got a heavy handed low pass filter upstream of the overdrive, you may need to add some raw output to the stream).

by carefully adjusting the parameters from this starting point, particularly the high / low cutoff sliders, i believe you can acheive that wild singing effect you are looking for.

How about copy/paste for oscillators by right-clicking the tabs?

Or at least... make it so when you right-click (thinking it had copy and paste, heh) and it brings up a list of patches to select, you can cancel so you don't lose the changes you've made :-o
