Kontakt 3 is not playing nice with Receptor

I installed Kontakt 3 and loaded a few instruments and created a Multi. Then I saved the source patch as a Receptor source patch. As soon as I try to change programs using the Source Patch Schema, Kontakt 3 initializes itself with no intruments loaded. This happends even though only 1 program/patch is defined in the bank. Ugh! This makes Kontakt 3 virtually unuseable for me. Has anybody else experienced this problem?

I just got Kontakt 3 installed and up and running today. I tested saving/recalling a few patches (so that I can recall from the Receptor front panel) and I am able to recall. There was one point where Kontakt would reboot the Receptor when I tried to simply select it as a source, but I did a Direct Install and updated to the latest version of Kontakt (I installed the patch update too). Now, everything seems fine...
I also changed the DFD setting to the lowest setting (128 voices/12 meg buffer) in the Preferences, and I lowered my instrument voices as well.

JR,
Please do me a favor and try creating a multi within Kontakt 3 which includes about 3 instruments. Now save the multi as a Receptor Source Patch. Also do this for a Receptor Single patch. Now restart Receptor (Multi + power button 3 times) and see if Kontakt 3 comes up with no patches or with the 3 instruments that were there before. If that works OK, remove Kontakt 3 then instantiate the Single patch you just created by selecting Single and the appropriate Single patch and see if the instruments appear in Kontakt 3 or is Kontakt 3 clear.
Thanks,
Phil

I think I see what you are describing...if you load several instruments in Kontakt 3 and try to save it as a patch (or as part of a multi in Receptor) you get an empty Knotakt when you try to recall anything (or reboot).
However, I saved my multi in Kontakt as a multi (.nkm) and then saved it as a patch, and it worked the way I expected. I was able to reboot, load the single, etc.
I hope this is what you were looking for.

Yes John... let me try that technique again. I think I tried that before but it still crashed, but let me try it again. Maybe I have to grab the Kontakt latest patch... they could have come out with a fix that I don't know about.
All in all, I find Kontakt 3 buggy as it seems to hang up the Recpetor frequently. I never had this problem with Kontakt 2. The only reason I went with Kontakt 3 is because Kontakt 2 would not play the Pettinhouse Jazz Guitar sample library (which is fabulous and I needed it).

BTW - where can I find the NI page to download the latest Kontakt 3 update?

http://www.native-instruments.com
You get the updates through your account...look for 'Updates' on the left side of the page.
I like those new instruments as well

just setting up a Receptor Komplete and yeah -- f'ing K3 is a nightmare!
two things that crash it consistently for me:
1) open Aux output config ('conf' button at bottom of mixer) -- changing output pairs crashes it
2) open waveform editor for a DFD sample
i'm mostly happy with Receptor, but it's bullshit that they sell it "broken" -- like: if it comes with K3, it'd be nice if someone at Muse actually tried using K3 at some point. Because it's kind of impossibe to do anything beyond opening a patch in Kontakt and not have it crash.
Anyone know if Kontakt 2 is (more) stable on Receptor?

I never got Kontakt 3 working before I sold my Receptor (before Direct install) but I had Komplete 4 pre-installed and Kontakt 2.2.1 was VERY stable. Of course that probably doesn't help you much now, since you can't even buy a license for Kontakt 2 these days.Nonplus wrote:just setting up a Receptor Komplete and yeah -- f'ing K3 is a nightmare!

It is a shame that they sell Receptor with K5 when Kontakt3 is this unstable.

My client has a K2 license already so your comment is helpful, encouraging.
The receptor is being used on stage and i've got all the instruments for the tour loaded and tweaked successfully, but I'll definitely install K2 when we get a break after this.
Thanks!

I am planning on buying Kompakt 3 for live use - especially multi instruments on one receptor channel for live performance. Is it working ok for anyone yet? If not has anyone put a ticket in to Muse about it? I have also read that the main new difference in K3 is that the convolution reverb is included in every patch, and it eats a ton of resources. Has anyone tried disabling this to see if it makes K3 more stable? Thanks.

the reverb is pretty light on resources (compared to other convolution reverbs)
the reverb has nothing to do with any of the crashes -- did you read this thread at all?

Wow- most everyone on this forum tries to be helpful. Is there anyone else out there who is using K3 successfully with multis in a live setting? I just want to know if it will work before I lay out $400 for it.

...and most everyone on this thread is using K3 on Receptor and unhappy with it.
the help you need, dudegravy, is with reading comprehension.
* multis might be f'd up
* editing patches is f'd up
* adding patches to multis eventually leads to crashes
* K3 sucks on receptor
i just set up a Receptor Komplete for a major artist's tour. we have around 20 instruments loaded simultaneously, the majority of which are sample based. we debuted the show / new material in front of live audiences in los angeles 3 days straight last week and it *played* flawless. but it will crash at the drop of the hat if you do any editing.

today my live snapshot patch (with one month work behind) just didn't want to load because of Kontakt 3. it reboot muse every time K3 was loading. I had a K3 with 14 single sounds on it. from the day I created it, every time Kontakt 3 loaded asked me for the audio interface and asked some bizzare setup questions. clicking on "no" would make them dissapear and apparently nothing happened. but today... I had to rebuild ALL my snapshot because there was no way to load ANY of the single presets of it because the snapshot had a Kontakt 3 crashing every time it was loaded in the RAM...
tried everything: saving the .nmk with empty instruments from another multi -but crashed. tried to copy the backup directly to the muse HD - but it was copy-protected. after 40 minutes of shouting to my Muse, I decided to redo all my work...
has anyone get a definitive solution to the Kontakt3 problems in receptor? how can muse research sell something that doesn't work properly... any official update??
thanks!
