...and should we say goodbye to Revalver? Or Cubase? Or Logic?

Oh, I should state for the record that I'm one of the content T3 users. We don't tend to speak up often because, really, why would we? "I wanna talk to a manager! I have no complaint! None! Do you hear me?"
Surely there must be consensus by now...

I think this thread is a little late: Tracktion became an orphan when it was sold off to corporate foster parents a few years back.

a simple yes or no answer is all im seaking.

is Traktion still being developed?

Suppose I'm a beta tester.

OK I can't talk.

But ask old beta tester, if they have been contacted recently. If not, I believe they can tell…

I think it odd that anyone would suggest Mackie do not *want* Tracktion to succeed. I think they have shown a commitment from the start. The question I still have is whether they are *able* to... and not through any shortage of ability, either.

The brilliance of Tracktion 1, which attracted so many of us here, is that it was so easy to use compared to the competition at that time... a real ABC approach. However, many of us then requested that Jules (and subsequently Mackie) add DEFGHIJ. Some people even asked for K and L.

As features were added, cracks in the original concept began to appear. The need to support multi-out VSTs was solved with the introduction of Racks in T 1.6, but an unexpected consequence was that PDC was broken in the process. Adding Send/Return channels in T2 further broke PDC. Tracktion's unusual routing has made it *difficult* to add the more flexible freeze many of us requested a few years back. Not only that, but the multi-core support added in T3 proved only a part solution, again because of T's unusual routing paradigm. Meanwhile the addition of a loop browser resulted in the loss of the brilliant input icons from previous versions, and the GUI has struggled to update with all these features in full flow.

The workflow of Tracktion is just fantastic, but too much has been lost in the process of adding these extra features. Jules said his reason for passing the programme on to Mackie was that he couldn't keep up/implement all the changes that he and others wanted, so hoped a larger development team could take it forward. But perhaps the whole original Tracktion paradigm is simply not suited to the development that has subsequently occurred.

I hope that Mackie - after this period of silence - can perhaps announce that they have indeed fixed the problems listed above (and all the other ones that have been reported of course) and get the whole Tracktion programme moving forward again, but there is a part of me that rather fears this just isn't to be, which is hugely disappointing.

Stop it: you're being sensible. And that just won't do here on KVR.

NO NO NO.... I NEVER asked for K ( L is another story)

Someone in an earlier thread mentioned that Loud Software Technologies (or whatever they're called) who really owns and develops Tracktion (for Mackie) is somehow known for dropping products without announcements of any kind.

It sounds like this has happened and Mackie is just being quiet and hoping to maintain the illusion that T3 is still a living, breathing application under development.

My guess is that eventually they'll own up to the fact publically that Tracktion is dead and now available unsupported at a discount or whatever.

Beno and others were probably just consultants hired to provide an interface to the online community. I'll wager they are no longer employed by Mackie in any way and have long ago signed NDA's to keep mum on the fact that Traction is kaput and moved on to other jobs.

Right now they (Mackie) are just sort of holding their breath and hoping no one will notice enough to harm their sales.

T3 works well for me, though, and with Live as a sister app I'm really all set. If I were to drop it completely, it would probably be for Cubase or ProTools (I can hear the groans ; ) but hey, that's me!

L? Oh come on. EVERYONE knows you can do that in a T3 rack using Hubi's looback driver rewired to a pre-2005 version of MS Word. A brainlessly easy workaround. Ask for something worthwhile already!

FYI, they (Loud Technologies) are: Alvarez, Ampeg, Crate, EAW, Knilling, Mackie, SIA and TAPCO. Not just Mackie. So, if Mackie is the only T3 developer among them, why Loud Technologies is a declared producer? I have my answer ready but I hope to be wrong. On the other hand, if Mackie is not the only one responsible for current development status, then I can't understand where's the problem with producing good software? Couldn't they, as associated company, produce something better or at least as good as Jules already did himself alone?

Well (if you read all I wrote) I think it's maybe more to do with the basic architecture of the programme, not the ability of the current developers. In other words, perhaps the basic routing paradigm (for example) just isn't going to be suitable for supporting all the features that are added now, or at least for more. Having used Tracktion since version 1, I feel that at this point the original paradigm/concept has been stretched further than can be sustained... perhaps.

Which is fine, in which case they could patch up the remaining holes, support it visibly online to keep up interest and call it a day.

This is a long shot, but if you have AVG anti virus installed, go to the Computer Scanner page, click the Tools tab and select Advanced Settings, scroll down to Exceptions and add the path to your vst folder. The slow load up used to drive me up the freakin' wall before reading about this tip, now it loads in seconds.
Hey, Ian,

Thanks tons!

This fixed the slow load issue I've been having, and it really stumped me since I work as a computer tech. But lo and behold, I installed AVG 8.0 just about the same time I started having this problem.

So I would definitely recommend to ANYONE having a slow load (obviously after turning off the check for new plugs at startup option) that you add all the directories/folders in your plugs section of the settings tab to your virus scanner's exception list of the resident scan options.

I really wish Ben O. or one of the other Mackie Tracktion reps would chime in and set the record straight as to what is going on with the future of Tracktion.

I sure hope T has a long and fruitful life ahead of it. It's such a great program.
