krraqk wrote:Humm... then if there is 10 voices per patch but 2 layers, that means that Omnisphere has 5 voices per layer? :D

I know you stated that there will not be more info until 15 sept, but can you elaborate a bit more about this aspect of the voice architecture? 5 voices with which functionality, tools and modifiers?
Not 10 voices.

10 Oscillators PER voice. :-)

Each layer can have up to 5 oscillators. So the Dual layer architecture of a patch can use up to 10 polyphonic oscillators if you want.
There will be sound presets done with several parts in the library included?
Yes.

There are some very cool multis that show off mod wheel cross-fading of 8 dual-layer modular moog style parts....pretty cool stuff!

V-Synth has some cool synth engines like the pitch shift with formants, Omnisphere has some about it inside?
It does have a Formant filter and polyphonic Timbre shifting, but it works and sounds very different way from the V-Synth.
Excuse me but Im waiting many months to know more about the Omnisphere synth engine and your comments here opened my curiosity another time.
Sure...no problem. :-)

I appreciate your answering all the questions. I don't know where I got the info that you couldn't make presets from scratch. I'm glad to hear you can. I am sorry I have to wait until the 15th to find out about upgrades. I was hoping to pre-order so I didn't have to wait too long to get my hands on it. I am one impatient dude, especially waiting for Omnisphere.

I'm banking on the answer being 'yes' and I hope that Spectrasonics is very kind to those of use who own Atmosphere (and Stylus RMX).
Yes. There will be an upgrade available for all Atmosphere customers directly from Spectrasonics.

We will also be offering special "VIP" upgrade deals to original owners of all three Spectrasonics instruments (Atmosphere, Trilogy and Stylus RMX)

Check out the website on the 15th for all the details.
Hmmm ... don't want to appear ungrateful, but what about owning Atmosphere & StylusRMX (but not Trilogy). Surely that might warrant an "inbetween" upgrade path ?

It would more attractive to me that way :)

Just thought I'd mention how nice it was to read all of Eric's posts. Very informative. Just 2 weeks now... :D

This may seem like an unimportant point to many but...

Is the Omnisphere packaging going to be very big, or can it be easily hidden from the wife upon delivery? 8)

I hate you. Most of the crying is because I can't pre-order my upgrade.

It'll be delivered in a neutral box with "Improves your performance by 78%" printed on it. :P

Anyone that likes synths with powerful modulation capabilities like Absynth, the V-Synth and Zebra2 is going to really love Omnisphere.

It's right up your alley. :-)
Now, you *had* to say this, huh? :x

Oh well... I knew there was a reason why I have been counting my cents TWICE a day over the last 9 months... *sigh* :D

... and curse you too, Ned!

one question isn't answered:
will there be a more user-friendly license transfer?
Imagine, you buy a 500$ software and you don't like it or you need money, but the potential buyer won't have upgrades (i don't mean updates) to the next version like the original buyer has.

Judging from the videos the Omnisphere sounds like a souped up version of the old PPG waveframe to me. I didn't hear anything really warm. I thought the contest winners did some truly amazing work but there was a similar characteristic in the sound to all the pieces that showed how small the sound pallete really is at the mo. It's obviously difficult to tell at thia stage so I am hoping things will get a little warmer on release because some of the new modulation features are really innovative and powerful. I guess at the moment its a hybrid of PPG/Absynth/Zebra and the Rob Papen stuff which in itself is pretty cool.... especially with the other bits and bobs so 500 bucks is actually reasonable.

I think at 40 - 50 GB for the Library I may very well uninstall some synths. Atmosphere will be the first...IIRC Omni has all the content / patches from Atmos anyway.

Trilogy will stay unless Omni has Bass sounds /presets to rival it. As for everything else...I would need to spend some serious time with Omni. It would be great to use it for *all* my sounds but time will tell. The potential is there it appears.

Quite a thought.

I am glad the sound design features are extensive, but I think the thousands of included patches in Omni means it will be time for Omni 2 before I can really explore any aspect of Sound design in it.:hihi:

It looks very inviting for tweakers IMO. Really looking forward to it. I love the design of the GUI. Large, stylish and easy to browse (superb browser) and read.

Very good news thanks. But this...

...is fantastic news :o
Omnisphere uses disc streaming so it laods fast and it also has a special Preview Load mode, where you can audition sounds prior to loading them completely.
Lovely.
How does up to 10 oscillators per patch sound?
Crazy. Designed to end the existence of all synths...simple goal really. :hihi:

Seriously though I think Rapture offers something similar (it's a really great feature) but of course I can only guess how it will work in Omnisphere. It might work in a totally different way. If it produces anything like the results you can get in Rapture, it will be a great feature to use in Omni.
In fact, because this instrument includes well over $2000 of our award-winning sample libraries, we could easily charge more for it and then it would be a "pro-only" type of instrument. Omnisphere will effectively kill our sample library business for good.
Interesting. So does that mean that Omni features content from SOV? SOV's price tag put the brakes on me getting it but if it has been gently and lovingly (heh) tossed into Omni's library then...something seismic has taken place beyond the other already seismic activity related to Omni. :P

So Spectrum or Glen, is SOV in Omni now?
OK. Don't use the Factory patches if you don't like them.

The reason we include them is because some of our users find our sound design work useful:

Come on Eric, the list in that link is no big deal...

Joking of course...I meant to say...
Gulp! :o :o :o :o :o WOW!!! :o :o :o :o :o
Now that we have our own technology, we can update the instruments much more regularly. We have a lot planned for the future.

You'll see, Smile
I really wanted to hear that. Thanks! Not having to wait another 4 years for more Spectrasonic offerings is great news but having said that, Trilogy, Atmosphere and RMX are as good as ever (here) and don't age in anyway. I think they simply reflect whatever a user creates with them at any given slice of time. The sounds for me do not sound dated at all. But I will still gladly entertain more frequent Spectrasonics offerings :hihi:
Correct. There will be a STEAM-based successor to Trilogy, but that's all we're saying at this point.
I think you have said more than enough there. Great news!
16 layers with independent FX racks, and 8 Arps anyone?
...yeah crazy really with something like 12 FX per patch IIRC?...cwaaazy. :D
