Micro Center, Office Depot, Office Max... I think the list is pretty well endless. Just check their sales. Micro Center has one on sale this week, but you may need to get their email. That's where I learned about it.

I just picked up a 500 GB internal drive for my desktop machine there for $120.00. That should be plenty of space for a little while, at least.

Similar over here in uk, hell i had four monsters (4 x 500GB) drives at one time but i have cut down alot to 1 x 130GB, 1 x 360GB & 1 x 500GB (plus the 600GB internal RAID drive and 70GB Partitioned System (30GB) & Data (40GB) Drive) = it was just too much, might as well of bought a server , but since i have slimmed it down its still getting full and my house keeping has gotten a bit untidy with god knows what where its just so easy to do with space so cheap these days and im always hesitant to delete stuff incase i may need it again. Not saying people should not buy lots of diskspace as its really needed these days but if you just stay on top of it from the start and you wont end up in a total NEKRO.MESS

dont wanna sound like a cheap lamo... but im college student... semi pro prospective user with purchases of sytlus rmx and atmosphere from here at kvr forum.... so its like i could get 50 off so i did.. but worried about non existeng upgrade paths due to resell... id be glad to pay the 500 but am just poor college..... would anyone from spectra consider doing a creazy upgrade path for me??

All legitimate customers of Atmosphere will be able to upgrade to Omnisphere. Including license transferred/used versions (as long as it was done properly through Spectrasonics).

License transfers are just not eligible for the the ultra special VIP pricing.

will I be able to transfer the license if I bought it 2nd had?

At 40 - 50GB, this is a pretty hefty beast. My laptop has only got about 35GB spare capacity, so I am wondering whether I will be able to use Omnisphere with an external hard drive / USB.

There's laptop drives going up to 500 GB. I'm gonna get me one next week (right now I use a 320 GB one). I like that a lot better tahn using external drives, especially for sample libraries, which I always want to have with me. I'd rather put my songs' audio data onto external drives and only keep the most recent stuff on the internal one.

Well, that would overcome the problem with HD capacity, but I would have to reinstall all of my programs on the new HD, right? That's an awfull lot of hassle.
I can pick up a 50GB external HD for about $40 that I could use just for omnisphere or maybe get a larger HD and use to store other audio related stuff...
If Eric confirms that it will work on the external HD, I think that's the simpler route.

Ian, I think there is a much easier way than Sascha's way.

First of all, buy Acronis True Image.
You can use this to make an image of your C: drive, which I presume contains your Windows installation.

Store the image on a separate hard drive, or separate partition on your current hard drive. (Presuming you have enough space.)

Remove the old hard drive and install the new one. Use Acronis True Image to restore the image onto the new hard drive.

That's it. Finished.

I've written a longer explanation of this, and will post it to 'Computer Setup and System Configuration', as I realised I'd wasted far too much space on this thread, off topic.

I am REALLY excited about Omnisphere too, and I'll be getting a copy as soon as I can afford it (a few months.)

I dont think their is a right or wrong way of doing things: if it works for you and does so rapidly then its right i guess.My method is not entirely the same but i do use acronis true image and it has never ever let me down. I have a folder in my start menu called 'Toolkit' and it contains a handful of non-audio applications which i think are essential and acronis true image is the most important of them all and dare i say it the most essential application i have. It has rescued me when i have needed it and keeps my system running over smoothly as used like you mentioned if the system seems to be a little sluggish or what not then out comes the 'essential' tool and after a quick smoke and a brew and its all done a fresh
There are alternatives to True Image but it seems to me to be the most straight forward one i have used and will continue to do so

What does Sarah Palin, or any other politician for that matter, have to do with Spectrasonics or Omnisphere? I get bombarded by political things constantly, on television, radio, and the internet. I come to KVR (and other music sites) to focus on music. And these threads, specifically, to see what's going on with Omnisphere. You're free to write whatever you wish, but there are forums that are better suited for politics. Once in a while, it's nice to have a little break from the real world, even if it's just for a few minutes.

What's easier that way? What you described is 100% exactly what Bart PE is doing. The only exception being that you have to download and install Bart PE, slap the Drive Image plugin into it and create a bootable CD.
