Personally, I don't mind paying the full price; it promises to be worth every penny. Retaining a team of sound designers, programmers, etc. scattered across the globe over a span of years to develop something like this must have cost a LOT. If nobody is paying the full price, it becomes harder to realize a tidy profit on the whole venture which can then be partially re-invested into developing cool add-on libraries and extended features in the future. I see the cost of the product as what promises to be a very worthwhile longterm investment.

*cough* hmmkkmhmm amen

I do understand the counter-arguments about the SOV upgrade debate. And I'm not whining because I'm a cheapskate ! I regularly spend an enormous amount on gear and the supposed price doesn't worry me. I just find the policy illogical and arbitrary.

As for the earlier statement that the phrases of SOV won't be included, well I'm not surprised, they were pretty much useless. And I very much doubt that Eric would say that SOV can produce better (or more) sounds with the core SOV samples than Omni. And SOV was a much more expensive product than Atmosphere.

So I'm looking at it like this:

Atmosphere is redundant. Big discount to get Omnisphere.
SOV is redundant. No discount to get Omnisphere.

But let me repeat, I'm not whining for a discount, just highlighting what I think is a weird policy.

0.73 seconds always on all patches and all computers.

No freakin' way, man! My computer is at least 48% better!
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

So where have you been on Atmosphere? :-)

Most of our longtime customers have both the instruments and libraries. Atmosphere's been available for six years after all. :-)

The number of times those phrase samples have been used would counter that argument.

Those phrases have been used in hundreds of famous films, tv shows and of course the infamous case of the new Mercedes Sound Logo:

And SOV was a much more expensive product than Atmosphere.
Nope. They were closer to the same price for most of the product life. About $100 difference.
So I'm looking at it like this:

Atmosphere is redundant. Big discount to get Omnisphere.
Yes.
SOV is redundant. No discount to get Omnisphere.
SOV is not redundant by any means. It can still be used in any samplers, which Atmosphere cannot.

And this is a huge difference:

It's no longer possible for us to provide future support for Atmosphere, meaning that plug-in will eventually stop working in future OS and computer platforms (like is already the case with Intel Macs)....so an upgrade for existing Atmosphere users to Omnisphere is absolutely imperative.

Omnisphere is primarily the future of Atmosphere, so there's a special upgrade for Atmosphere users.

There's also an additional VIP upgrade pricing for the "super loyal" users that own all three Spectrasonics instruments and purchased them through dealers.

That's correct.

Integrating the best of the sample libraries is just an extremely cool bonus.

It's not the focus of Omnisphere at all.

It varies depending on streaming settings, preview load mode and which soundsources make up the patch.

It's quite a bit fast than Atmosphere for sure, and the synth osc patches load immediately.

You are most welcome to, but that would give you a completely different synthesizer. :-)

Hey spectrum, I must say that I really am counting down the days, Omnisphere really does look amazing.

May I please ask a few questions about the synthesizer engine...

How many oscillators are there per voice?

Are the wavetables fixed or can we draw our own waveforms? How many wavetables are included?

Are standard waves included (Saw / Square with PWM / Noise / Sine / Triangle)?

What sort of filters are available?

Can you please tell us a bit more about the unison and saturation (waveshaping) included?

Kindest Regards
Fots

Oxytoxine wrote:will there also be "natural" instruments included like solo strings, brass etc?

although i have a dedicated strings library i still truly love the cathedral strings in atmosphere

thanks!
No solo strings or brass at this point. The focus of the core library is definitely on really unique and inspiring sounds, much less so on traditional instrument.

That said, there's a lot of great stuff that works in that vein.

Oh....and I forgot to mention the new "Power Strings" we included....dang! ;-)

you'll like them. :-)

Yes. :-)
