Yes, we are sorry to inform that EVE will only support SSE capable processor. I'm impressed that Athlon 1 Giga doesn't have SSE, that's strange. I got here a 1.2 Athlon and it has SSE. We did include this information when we released the new beta.

Check this out:

Apparently, just because your processor has SSE, that doesn't mean that it's turned on. I have an Athlon XP+ 1700 and I think that maybe it doesn't have SSE turned on. I need to do some research. Hopefully I can get it all figured out before I buy EVE. It would explain why the SSE-enabled version of PolyIblit was crashing... :(

Post

Hello, SSE is not something you turn on, all Athlon XPs has SSE. Maybe Polyblit was crashing to another reason. ;)

I will email you a test copy so you can be sure that is going to work for you bud.

Great

surely that cuts out half the potential customers?

Half?! Krim, I'm sorry you won't be able to run EVE, but to think that out there there is half of clients using non-SSE computers is crazy. Actually, we are NOT the first company to release a program that only runs on SSE capable computers. As I see from the post-link above, Adobe allready works like that. SSE is 4 times faster than any other instruction, and is PERFECT for audio. I'm impressed that other VSTi companies are not using it like crazy. Maybe is time for you to upgrade your processor, since you can bet that there will be a lot of new VSTis using SSE. ;) Actually, NI was the first ones to make dual SSE and non-SSE programs, but that slows down the application, and is much more work for us...

But if your OS does not detect SSE, it won't install the libraries and registry keys to use it. That link I posted earlier talks about that. It might only be relevent for CPU upgrades, though...

Maybe it is, you gonna pay for that?

My PC has been fine for nearly 3 years, now i cant use a lot of new stuff cos it wont run on win98 or cos i dont have SSE (whatever the f**k that is)

Lets hope BMW dont star making cars that only run on roads built since 2001.

right I was in the same boat with my Athlon 1.4 cpu no SSE so it wouid not run quite a few things.... now on an amd XP, just a lowly 1800+ but it runs the SSE apps just fine....

To say, 'my computer has run fine for the last 3 years' is not part of the question... In this pc world technology changes very fast and stuff gets left in the dust... just a fact of life in tech world...

It's like saying my PII cpu still runs fine... which many still do... but the fact is that you can't install Windows XP OS on it.... that's just how it goes... 'they' got us by the short hairs you know... hahahaha

btw, just getting a newer cpu is not the only thing... most likely you would have to get a new mobo that will support the newer cpu as well.... and of course that means installing everything from scratch.... I know... I'm having to do it.... 4 years of installs and tweaks to perfection on the amd 1.4 all down the drain... since it can't just migrate to the XP cpu and mobo..... it's a bitch ain't it? And something that 'could' be handled better... but the people that make and sell OS's and Hardware WANT you to have to get new stuff fairly often, eh? Same for cars, ain't? Good thing there are no new SMOG laws for pc's........ yet!

my new version of audition works perfectly here

 Max, you are the master of point. You did a good job. Krim, please, don't be upset, I know that upgrading is expensive. But 1 year ago my machine was an AMD-K6II wich runned fine for years, and I could not use anything new on it, the CPU usage just hitted 100% on almost every VSTi with a few voices. :(

But I don't want to talk about this anymore, is not the pourpose of this topic.

About SSE = Streaming SIMD Extensions. It does 4 math operations at the same time of a normal math operation. Resuming, VSTs can be 4 or even more time faster. But the coding is different.

Exactly, and thats fine if you have a load of cash to spare (and save me the 'its soooo cheap these days, cos if you're skint, nothings cheap)

Assuming i buy a new app, its a bit of a nightmare having to shell out £200 just to use it. and as this is the first time ive had this prob personally, im not upgrading just for one VSTi.

anyway, strolling way off topic here.

i'll just go back to Beta 16 and play with it on my own while the world flies by

Which is about right. More than that is pushing it, isn't it?

Ah, the bittersweet feeling of being left behind. Minus the "sweet" part. I'm sorry to hear it, man. Maybe some polite pressure will make William change his mind and have two versions available. It's worth a try.
Kriminal wrote:(whatever the f**k that is)
Well, if you really want to know...
Kriminal wrote:Lets hope BMW dont star making cars that only run on roads built since 2001.
Maybe a more apt analogy would be cars that run on unleaded gasoline or hydrogen or electricity. It's like when software started to be released on CDs and not everyone had a player. It's happening again with stuff being released on DVD. Wasn't there a discussion on this in the fxpansion forum when people found out BFD was DVD-only?

BTW, Beta 16 was sounding great 8)
