Blue Cat's Gain Suite big bugs in FL8

I had a chance to try out the Gain Suite in FL8 and unfortunatly they simply do not work as they are suppose to.

I was quite dissapointed that these dont work as they would have made for an amazing workaround when trying to simulate modular fucntion in FL :(.

1st off the routing buttons produce no sound when 2 or more are on separate channels and 1 or more 'link letters' are pressed.
2nd, if I even touch or go near the gain sliders it freezes FL up and crashes out.

One question, what if any, special system files do these plugins use to work. Can you perhaps PM me a list please. The reason I ask is because I'm trying to exclude the fact that perhaps I'm missing some system file that could be causing this issues.

Please let me know

Thanks

Hi,

thanks for testing these out. There is no special file for these plugins to work. I remember they worked in FL Studio 7, so it seems strange it crashes the new version, but who knows!

I'll have someone check this and get back to you asap. Sorry for the trouble.

The odd thing is they work fine in XT. Go figure .. It would be nice if they'd work in FL also. Then I'd know that your other amazing plugs would also ;). Been waiting on purchase to see if they'd work 1st  :).

Hi,

we could not reproduce the problem on FL Studio 8, so maybe we are doing something different. As you can see below, with the Blue Cat's Gain (Stereo), it works in our environment:

BTW did you try both the VST and DirectX versions? Which plugin did you use (Widening, Stereo or Mono?). Note that you cannot link together a Mono instance and a stereo instance (you can link only indetical plugins together). Still, it should however not crash. Do you have special options checked in FL8 (we used the stock install options)? Do you have a multiple processors machine? (that's what we used here)

Thanks for your patience.

Hmm thats strange. When I turn down the opacity the whole app goes see thru. Will try the DX versions.

Yes, that's because you need to setup the plugin window as "detached" (a tutorial about this topic to be published on our website):

It's the same for the DX and VST. This features is unfortunately host dependent as we theoritically do not have control over the host's windows.

I've also found it strange and dissapointing that you can only send controls to windows with their own process ID's and not GUIChildWindowClass for instance. Its a shame that it has to be this way.

Well it's just that only actual windows can be made transparent. Just the same on Mac :). Child windows are not really "windows", just views... So you are a developer, aren't you? ;)

This can be hazardous if somone acciedently sets it to 0. One could loose the app to invisibility ;).

Anyhoo I tried the DX and the gain knobs dont crash FL but I'm not hearing anything when I connect 2 groups together on different tracks I can only control the group gains. Correct me if I'm wrong but one they are suppose to stream the actual audio also right?

Don't worry, the "0" on the slider is not actually "0". You will always see the window, so that you can always increase the opacity. it would be tough otherwise :).

No, the plugin does not actually let you do audio routing. The channels are "communication" channels for the gain parameters. I suggested it in the crossfade thread because it allows you to adjust the gain simultaneously on several tracks, which is a good way to crossfade without having to do complex routing.

Such an audio routing plugin is in the plans, but not yet finalized!

Still investigating the crash issue in FL 8 but still could not reproduce it.

WANT! :tu:.
Let me know if you need a beta tester or can I get on a mailing list for info/news of that one :D?

It's not in beta yet but still in the R&D lab. The main issue with such a plugin is that you always find a host that behaves differently, and it's tricky to handle delay compensation in an automated way (because of tracks processing order). Anyway we'll keep you informed as soon as something is on its way to the public market!
