Quite a good question.

Personally, I will wait for a bit and see what others have to say about it.
But I guess I'll order it, sort of like a personal present after playing a stupid steady gig for 8 days end of this month (uhm, that's next week already...).
I'm expecting it to be just a high quality instrument with some nice (and partially easy) tweaking options to make the delivered sounds suit my own stuff.
I don't seem to "need" it at all, though. But I kinda seem to want it because I found everything seen in the videos to be cool ideas.

Hot air in other words. If a user thinks the attention and the experience of the product deserves one another, hype isn't a valid point of argument - and since everybody will differ in opinion, there can't be any consensus as to whether it is a hype or not.
If one wants to get excited about it they're entitled to. Why do you feel you have to trounce on other peoples joy?
I'm not saying that it's going to be the best thing in the world ever, but from the demos and the many years of work that has gone into it, I think it will be pretty special. I'll post again in a month to air my disappointment or my approval. Cheers.

To any European upgraders buying from the Specs TechShop: are they charging VAT at the point of sale?

Kind regards.

You have severely misinterpreted my post. You got it so wrong, I had to read it twice. Do you speak much english otherwise?

1. I am happy that people are excited about this product, I am pro the positive attention about it and a part of that crowd. Tell me where I suggest otherwise. The claim of "hot air" was regarding people stating "hype" or "not hype" without having used it themselves, since there is no hands on experience to support the claim.
2. My post was mainly regarding the definition of the word "hype" and not regarding omnisphere per se.
3. I am not sure you're going to understand what I write in this reply.

Nope, and they don't have to as they're not Europe-registered.

However, as they're shipping with UPS, we'll likely get hit with import duty and VAT on arrival, unless they've marked the value down (PLEASE !!) - UPS will probably pay the charges and then restrospectively invoice you for those charges and their own handling charges :(

Unfortunately, the shipping notification doesn't show the marked value.

I don't see any limitation on the Spectra site, so I'll assume that I can wait until next year to upgrade using the VIP discount. Cool.

Great patches that will address my need to work and compose quickly.

I used to have an issue with matching some melodies with grooves in RMX...Groove lock sounds like a fantastic solution to that issue.

Hate to say it, but I might stop using Blue if Omnisphere's CPU hit is considerably lower.

I just want Omni to be as useful as the Specs other 3 VI's. This 5 to 7 day wait isn't cutting it though.

Anybody else think that the Spectrasonics website is in need of a face-lift?

Thanks for this info, koalaboy.

UPS apparently do their customs clearance differently from Fedex. I'm told it's something like the airline passenger's Green Lane/Red Lane choice. Apparently, Fedex always goes through the Red Lane with everything, while UPS goes the Green Lane. At any rate, I've often got stuff from overseas through UPS that hasn't attracted duty or VAT (and should have), while I've had to pay both on every single Fedex shipment I've ever received.

Anyway, thanks again for the info. Makes it easier to calculate the value of the VISA pre-paid credit voucher. Now I gotta get a new Raptor drive to hold the Omni library...

Kind regards.

Yep. I've thought that for years - it didn't match the quality of their original instruments a few years ago, let alone now.

I don't think I got charged any duty/vat etc when I received my Stylus RMX upgrade from the states, or my RMX Xpander packages either...

Your post made sense to me, but then again, I don't much care about omni until it's out and rational people have had a chance to evaluate it. The word hype caused, I assume, some to misinterpret your point. You've clarified what seemed pretty obvious already, and I would agree with you that many of the posts seem to assume this unreleased instrument will be the next greatest thing. We'll see.

Here's hoping they go through the green lane then :D

Either way, this is going to be a fun weekend for me - I've just bought Reaktor from Philly, I have Sonar 7 pro-suite on the way and a Nocturn, and Omnisphere maybe making it as well.

Plenty to play with and get out of the way before the *real* big event next week....

.... yes, none of this compares to Wipeout HD on the PS3 :hihi:
