I'm moving them to the hard drive now but I might not get a chance to try them out at home until tomorrow. I'll let you know.

I'm doing a test install from the DVD images and the first two discs went smoothly....whew. So far, this looks like one way around the dual-layer thing in case anybody else doesn't have a drive on the computer where they intend to run Omnisphere.

can anyone tell us if there are any simple patches as well as the mega ones ?

I am guessing as the synth side has standard waveforms it will be pretty simple to get a pallet of basic analog sounds together ?

The synth section is great and has really nice basic waveforms. You can do a lot to them too.

The samples also contain a lot of fantastic basic sounds from analog synths.

Does omnisphere include any velocity-sampled instruments? Does it have a good variety of real instruments? Or is it mostly synth sounds?

you have to create at least one subfolder in the User patch folder.
I made several ones for pads, leads etc.
when i save a patch into one of these i can recall them with no problem

It has quite a selection of "normal" velocityswitched sounds like great acoustic and electric guitars from the Hans Zimmer lib and amazing vocals and strings.
Also lots of classic mellotron samples.
I also like the several pianosamples including the burning one. They sound very unique and are a great addition even if you have a couple of regular piano samples at your disposal.I have Ivory and Pianotek and can see myself using the Dreampiano a lot.
Reminds me a bit of the New Age piano in my old Kurzweil-it has that same otherwordly quality-very inspiring.

The sample structure isn't exposed so I couldn't tell you which ones are or not velocity-sampled without opening the patches and with the sheer number of patches and sound material included, that's a bit tricky to attempt.

The majority of the sounds are intended for use in a "synthesizer context", that is to say there are several guitars, strings, human voice patches, etc., many of very high quality, but that this is not really designed to replace the realistic ROMplers that give you several articulation changes, keyswitches, round robin alternations, etc.

The majority of the sounds I've come across fall into pads, atmosphere, lead, bass and just about every role you would have though of putting synth sounds into, though many of them are based upon very different approaches of getting there.

Actually that's a rather premature.

Lots of the patches in the library would have seemed right at home in your track "thin". There is plenty to choose from as far as the Orbital and Vangelis style synths you used on your MySpace for instance. The "Modern Hybrid" sub-category sounds more modern but there are many choices for more retro or traditional sounds and the sound shaping options are numerous.

It has notes on every sound, some more specific than others, and many of the patches have pictures. But not all. Each one has been extensively tagged to make it easy to search for and find as well.

Update: UPS says it is already in Cologne (sept 17th 4 am) to get through the customs.
