Heheheh....KvR is awesome. :-)

So you've already heard all 4000 sounds from the factory have you? :-)
I'm glad you find my questions so amusing.
Didn't mean for that to sound offensive. I apologize if it came off that way.

It's difficult not to get a little defensive when your hard work gets dismissed so quickly. :-)

I'm really just saying the same thing that Per said, but he said it in a much better way.

I was responding to this comment:
kuniklo wrote:Thanks for the sound demo Per. It confirms my suspicions that most of the factory patches aren't going to be much good for my style.
My response is to the word "most patches". Of course you have heard less than 1% of them yet, so it's probably a little premature to make that conclusion.

Generally speaking, there's a huge tendency here on KvR and other forums to instantly judge and pidgeon-hole a product as being this thing or that thing. I think there are a couple of thread and posts here that demonstrate that phenomenon. ;-)

Al I'm saying is this:

Please don't instantly write off the 15 years of sound development I put into Omnisphere....OK? :-)

There's a huge amount of material there. There's massive ways to manipulate it. There are many, many applications in lots of different genres. I have a strong feeling that if you like any kind of electronic music, you will find it quite useful indeed.
So far I've heard exactly what everybody else has heard - the patches you've chosen to showcase in your videos and in the contest and the patches Per was kind enough to demo for us. So far all of them have been exactly the kinds of sounds that put me off your last batch of products. Maybe there are 3000 patches waiting for me in the rest of the library that I'd want to use, but without any more information all I can do is guess.
Makes total sense.. And there will be much more info and many demos coming.
If you guys post the reference manual and a voice list for download when you get a chance it would help but at the moment I just don't feel like gambling $500 on buzz.
Of course. That's completely understandable.

Our primary focus up to this point has to finish the instrument, which was a massive undertaking.

Now we are beginning the process of revealing what it is, how it sounds, how it works, what it's capable of.

I am always happy to hear honest feedback too. We are setting out to make something really special here and I like to get user feedback as much as possible,

Cheers,

spectrum

as far as i've gathered...

there are samples from the distorted reality sample cd's.
there are samples from the hans zimmer guitar sample cd's
there are samples from their voice libraries.
there's the entire atmosphere library
probably a lot of other samples from previous libraries
a lot of new content. some of it being "psycho-acoustic". that means to me that they have sampled a portion of another sound, and processed it until they have a playable sound
regular synth oscillators
not-so-regular synth oscillators :)

these are the sound sources available to mix and match as you will

many filter types
many effects

spectrasonics sound design.

pretty exciting package in my head, but i get what you're saying kuniklo. many of Erics sounds are pretty unusable. until the time that they are just what you need. ;)

Kuniklo wrote:To put it in context, when I was considering buying a hardware synth workstation (Motif) I was able to download the complete reference manual and complete voice and patch lists. This made it a lot easier to make an informed buying decision on an expensive instrument I couldn't really demo. Without this kind of information I'm not really willing to take Omni on faith, particularly after buying Stylus RMX a while ago only to discover that I didn't want to use *any* of the bundled sounds.
Well, it should be fairly easy for them to publish the reference guide that is said to include that list.

And those sounds , incredibly beautifull and compelling as they are , do not fit into the needs of everyone . They all seem like prophecies that want to stand on their own and demand their own song to shine ; no " team work " here . Of course it's just my personal perception !!! ... anyone who is reading this may think " what an asshole !!! " , and be totally right ... in his/her own perception . What some of us are saying is : we are sure that you have put in Omnisphere what we need too , but we need to be " completely " sure before we spend the money ! . Speaking of myself , I don't consider the money I earn " mine " . It's my family's money . I don't believe there are attacks here ... I think that we are suggesting the way to sell more Omnispheres ! .
I agree with your points completely.

We'll have much more info and demos available for you guys as soon as we can. :-)

I'm looking forward to hearing more examples of what it can do. I understand that getting it out the door has been a priority and that more information will be forthcoming so I'm happy to wait.

Also, I hope I've made it clear that I don't doubt that there's a tremendous amount of expert sound design in the library. It's just not yet clear to me if it's what I personally need.

I know you're not planning to release a demo version but this also cools my enthusiasm a bit because I've found a lot of the more complex synth plugins to be pretty buggy, particularly in Ableton, so without being able to stress test the plugin part itself in my environment I can't be sure I'm not going to run into problems on that front either. I'm sure if there are issues you'll get them hammered out eventually but this also contributes to my feeling that I can wait until this has been out a while before taking the plunge.

Very cool. :-)

This synth is going to be evolving for a very long time.

Yeah...no problem. Makes sense.

It would be a good idea to check it out in a store, where you can try it yourself.

That's what I tend to suspect. Spectrasonics obviously makes quality stuff but so far it hasn't been my style. I'm curious to see if Omni is different but, based on what little information is available so far, it doesn't sound like it is.
That's understandable. For me I'm sold to Spectrasonics after hearing "OK Chorale" and "Shamus theme" : )

Yes, I think the track record of their products speak for themselves, and the high level of praise they receive. I also have similar thoughts though. I am really quite happy with the synths that I have. The sound making capacity is astounding and of superb quality.

So far I have not heard anything in Omnisphere that is something I do not have already. That is not a criticism of Omnisphere. If I had nothing I would give it consideration. It is a drawback that it has no demo cause I can demo most other synths and really dig into them a bit and find out how they fit, how they work in my setup. I don't find any synth very interesting until I have worked with it a bit. Then as I use the demo this or that synth will stand out and just feel/sound right. I am so used to being able to explore a new synth demo at my leisure, in my own studio, that the thought of purchasing something without that is really just hard to imagine.

I know a lot of people impulse buy, but I want to know something is of use to me specifically, otherwise I'd rather not spend the money and have it sit there unused.

Back in the 16th century, some guy hammered out a horn for hunting. Later the same type of horn was used for opera back up and eventually was modified and used in the orchestra. Supposedly the first guy hammering it out was a German, but it is now known as the French Horn.

That first guy back in the 16th century was probably told by many, that his new instrument wasn't their cup of tea and that it couldn't make sounds that you can dance to and that it scared their sheep.

Fast Forward to the 21st century. Some guy is burning a piano and recording it. Many people will say that it's not their kind of sound and they can't dance to it and it scares their sheep...

Fast Forward to a possible future:
In the 22nd century, the burning piano is an integral part of the orchestra and many music schools offer majors in burning piano performance and all of Bach's and all the great masters works have been transcribed for the Burning Piano.

So ya see, ........time marches on....and only the innovators make that time interesting.

Thanks Spectra dudes for making my time on the planet a little more interesting.

Right. If I were starting from scratch then this would be a different calculation. Omni isn't cheap but I'm sure you could go a long way with it if it were your only instrument.

Alchemy and Omni are pretty different, but so far if I had to put my money on one or the other to really push forward the art of synthesis my cash is on the Camel.
