Hehe...OK...read the following sentence in my poorly written post ;)

yeah, lousy language i know, but I think you will understand what I meant.

Being a roland guy growing up, 80% of everything i've done must've been based on your work, and I've always known that ;)
i still remember getting the bass&drums exp card for my JV1080. i was amazed as the quality on these sounds surpassed anything i'd ever heard on any rompler out before that imho.

Looking forward to that. Thanks. 8)

Good question. Something I don't already have, I guess. I've got Komplete, Zebra, Surge and the GForce synths, so something I can't get out of those. I suppose I'd probably have the most use for atmospheric stuff like the patches you find in Absynth or some rawer sounds like those in Massive but with better sound quality than either.

I particularly appreciate sound design that considers performance controls. This is one area where most of the instruments I have fall down so if the Omni library consistently assigns useful and interesting performance controls in patches that would be another selling point for me. It's still not clear to me what the engine offers in this respect though. The macro control approach that Surge, Zebra, Massive and Absynth use is pretty close to ideal I think, but only the Massive library makes use of it in almost every sound.
To me Omni's content speaks for itself, and I don't mean that in the typical sense. I'm not a big fan of ultra-slick, heavily produced arped-out sounds. What I mean is that there is a ton of raw material in Omni which you can shape as you please, internally or externally, to make your own unique sounds... delicate, aggressive, beautiful, raw, bread 'n' butter, mangled to hell and back... it's all there.

I'll try and put some sounds together for you, but I think your bigger question is one of workflow, and unfortunately I think this brings us back to the question of a demo.

Alchemy and Omni are pretty different, but so far if I had to put my money on one or the other to really push forward the art of synthesis my cash is on the Camel.
That remarkable new resynthesis in Alchemy is enticing to me. It is something new in that this is the first time that a resynthesized sound just sounds like the original. That does seem like a step into the future, and Omnisphere seems more like the culmination of the past (the best rompler of all time sorta thing). That said, Omnisphere may end up being more useful to more musicians but it is that resynthesis that sparks my interest... and for more than just music... for radio and voice overs etc

Hey polyslax, since I like your musical aesthetic, I'd also be interested to hear some sounds you put together out of Omnisphere...

cheers

A longtime member and musician here, not so frequent poster. Angered by some of the posts and reactions here, I was about to post something very heated.. But as usual, my anger faded away when typing the post, so at some point I decided to start over with a cooler state of mind. :)

During the 15-or-so years I have been making music more or less professionally, Eric's work has been somehow present in almost every piece of music I have made. (At first I thought I must exclude at least my old Amiga mods, but then I realized I had sampled sounds from Roland D-5 and R-8 for those....)

In the last 5 years, Stylus (RMX), Trilogy, and especially Atmosphere have been in good use in most of my projects. Atmosphere's Hollywood Strings have become The String Sound for me - so much that even my bandmates who are not that much into the keyboard/computer/production stuff know the sound by name (and sound).

To avoid overwhelming fanboy-ness, I must say it's not all good: when I moved to an Intel Mac, I was pretty angry when I couldn't use Atmosphere and Trilogy any more. Then came the wrappers, which are much less than ideal - Atmosphere works about OK, but since the timing is not rock solid, Trilogy is in practice unusable, and I had to find another source for bass sounds. I completely understand the reasons for this hassle, and I'm willing to forget all that once I get my hands on Omnisphere. :)

You probably couldn't care less about my history with Spectrasonics, so let me finish by saying that we should feel honored to have legends like Eric and other Spectrasonics employees here with us. My Omnisphere should arrive next week (damn slow overseas shipping), and based on everything I have heard and seen so far, I simply _know_ it will have lots and lots of sounds I will use a lot in years to come, in all kinds of productions and music styles.

Thank you! Huh, didn't realize someone would actually remember that old stuff, what a nice surprise. :) A remix would be cool, just PM me in case you want to chat about it.

Camels scare my sheep :hihi:

I can't see chearleading for one company over the other.

It's all good, I can find a use for everything, from all innovators :tu:

When I first read about Omni I though that the synth section would be just a secondary thing. A little icing on the cake... But after spending two days with the plugin now I can honestly say that if this product was released with just the synth and no sample library I would still buy it. Its a wonder synth and I am loving it. Much more impressive that I was expecting.

Omni is so much more than "the best rompler of all time" It's a fantastic synth too!

Definitely. It's great to have someone like Eric here that's willing to answer questions and field criticism and deal so patiently with a lot of pretty tacky grousing about upgrade pricing.

I hope you can also see that it's possible to have some reservations about Omnisphere while still appreciating the role Eric and Glenn have taken here.

Absolutely Nothing. :-)

But it's fair to say that KvR is a little more on the "wild west" side of the forum world. ;-)

And that's part of its beauty too. I wouldn't change a thing.
Like Kunilko, Per's demo really was not the kind of sounds I would get Omni for. (I appreciate the time Per put into getting the demo out).

The problem is Eric, without a demo we really do have to scan threads and You tube for anyone who wants to put an mp3 demo up. I really like the idea behind Omnisphere (many clearly agree) but it's one of the most bizarre approaches to marketing software I have seen.
It's not a marketing strategy at all. :-)

We are just trying to catch-up to showing what this instrument can do.

Our first priority was producing this beast - which took 100% of our team's effort.

Now we are beginning the process of showing what it's all about. :-)
I think the central issue for some is, what percentage of the Library is for unconventional sounds (which I appreciate is likely the key focus for Omni) and what percentage is for Basses, Pads, Leads e.t.c

I think you kindly provided info on the break down of included SOV content and other previous Spectrasonics sample Libraries compared to new content in Omni, but I would really like to know what the split is (roughly anyway) between unconventional sounds and other more familiar sounds. (Basses, Pads Leads)E.t.c
I would say it's about 75% in the "useful" category and about 25% in the more experimental/super unique kinds of territories.

But it depends a lot on the patches of course. And those will be expanding very rapidly. So it's not possible to put any sort of precise figure on it.

But...I don't think I would put Omnisphere into the category of Impulse buy (my opinion only of course).
Sure. That's true of any product that's in that price range.

You guys expect to have more information and examples prior to making a big purchase. That's completely fair to demand.

....and you shall have it! :-)

Just give us a bit of time. :-)

Cheers,

spectrum
