I hate asking this question because I know I will be flamed, does Omnisphere have similar sound characteristics to the Virus TI? That is to say, the overdrive / saturation algorithms, the filters, the oscillators?

Would love an honest answer if anyone would be so kind.

Totally different sounding.

But there are some similarities, in that you have a powerful dual filter architecture per layer, where you can use the filters in series and parallel.

I just realized something. I had wished for something like the psychoacoustic patches of Omnisphere back in January 2006, although what I wished for was even more involved--actually being able to control various articulations of imagined instruments:

Looks like at least one developer is heading in the direction I had wished for?

Eric, any chance you might take things up a notch in the future and actually create those imagined instruments with articulations?

That's a great track. If that can't shut the mouth of the "tired of 30s evolving pads and ambiences"-crowd, I don't know what can. Actually, that might just please the "commercial dance" crowd, but at least now both the film/tv crowd and the dance crowd should be content. Now you just need to satisfy the IDM crowd, which is off course not an easy task.

I'm sorry if this has already been answered, but as a sort of successor to Atmosphere will I be able to import my own Cubase 4 vst programs into Omnisphere or will I have to keep Atmosphere installed.

I just received my copy and I have a question about the install...once disc 1 has completed (and the system knows where the sound files etc go) - can a guy simply just copy the large files from DVDs 2-5 or do I have to run the installer on each disc.

Reason I ask is - I have a utility called Teracopy which will cut the file copy time in half (or more) vs running the installer on each disc.

Thoughts? Or do the installers on each DVD actually do something else in addition to just copying files?

you can already modulate the insert fx parameters of both layers with LFOs, controllers and envelopes.
just insert a fx into a layer and the parameters show up in the matrix destinations.

Myself and another user counted 950+ patches in the current version. They are adding more. In addition there are many multis on top of that.

Right now the part of the library that has "thousands" is the sound source library. I believe the most current figure quoted was circa. 2700 sound sources.

If you open the sound source browser, rather than the patch browser, you can find a large collection of the sounds from Atmosphere by typing in "atmosphere" in the search box. This has been mentioned once or twice in the Omnisphere threads so far, but the patches aren't ready yet.

Cool - this helps. the sound source functionality is cool. Looking forward to making the most of this great sounding instrument. I'm getting lost in the pads alone - never mind the patch additions expected soon!
