Everyone is talking about the jp-8000 sample in omnisphere. Would someone please be kind to post a clip of how it sounds? The curiosuty is killing me lol

To those of you who purchased and used Omnisphere:

I'm considering purchasing Omnisphere (and Camel Audio Alchemy) in the next month or 2. I currently own a few VST synths which I may sell if Omnisphere can replace them. Plus I want to trim down the instruments in my arsenal to the bare essentials.

Listed below are the synths/romplers I'm considering retiring If I was to get Omnisphere and Alchemy. Which ones would you keep and which ones would you get rid of?

Sonik Synth 2
Sylenth
Gladiator
Cakewalk Dimension Pro
Cakewalk Rapture
Zebra
Albino 3
Arturia Minimoog
Minimonsta
Nexus 2
Trilogy
Vir2 Syntax

Keeping your plug-in folder streamlined makes sense, if you're the type that likes to avoid clutter. (I am.)

However, unless you need to sell things off in advance in order to purchase Omni and Alchy, I think you'd be better off spending some time with the new instruments and only then deciding if anything else you own has become redundant.

I wouldn't get rid of any of them. Omnisphere is incredible (based on the 10 hours I've spent with it thus far), but don't let the hype convince you that it (or Alchemy) are the end-all synths that will make everything else obsolete. And, it's not like these other synths are hardware that are taking up valuable physical space, so I'd just keep them, especially any that you have used in previous projects. Ask yourself this question: is it really worth my time trying to recreate all of those synth parts in a different synthesizer? Unless, of course, you're not using these synths in any projects, in which case the obvious solution would be to "retire" any that you aren't using.

But, keep in mind that some of these synths (e.g., Cakewalk synths) CANNOT LEGALLY BE SOLD, and doing so will likely piss off an unsuspecting buyer when he/she realizes that he/she can't get support for their synth.

Definitely keep Rapture and Minimonsta, Alchemy and Omnisphere can't replace those. Let me know when you sell Nexus 2 so I can buy it from you.

Thats cool thanks. Im really interested what you can do with and how many vintage analogue synth soundsources there are...and how the filters sound with them...

One thing Im not totally clear on: with the sample Oscilator - do you need to use the 'harmonia' feature to make use more than 1 Osc per voice?

No. They will reveal the details about the future of Trilogy sometime soon, I think (just let them get Omnisphere out of the door)... Eric has said, that the future of Trilogy is steam based.

AFAIK reading all those threads and in special what Eric Persing wrote the answer seems no.

Been said that Trilogy would be updated in the future with the steam engine it seems that this sample content is reserved for this "future trilogy".

There are a lot of vintage analog sound sources. In the "Synthesizer -> Analog Tones" category I'd estimate at least a hundred. Oberheim, Virus, Roland, PPG, Wavestation and so on. The Omni filters are great, at least the ones I've tried so far. The demo I posted is using the "Rich and Moogie3" dual filter preset with an envelope and modwheel assigned to filter cutoff.

If you're in synth mode, if you want to get more oscs per voice (eg. unison) there's a tab called "Mult" below the synth waveform. Enable it and you can get up to four or five osc unison with controlled detuning and spread. Harmonia lets you control specific pitches for each additional voice, which is a separate mode than standard Unison, and useful if you want to have one note trigger a major chord for example.

On an unrelated note, adding FM to a deep male choir is amazing.

Not to mention the official Omnisphere FAQ on Spectrasonics' website, which has had this question and answer for a long long time..
