Waldorf PPG Wave 2V - Categorized/Enhanced Bank + D-Pole UI

Some investigation into the PPG pdf manual has shed some light on the wavetable stuff. I also learned you can disable aliasing by disabling "TRUE PPG" mode.

This is a deep synth. Standard VA waves triangle, square, saw, and pulse exist as the 60,61,62,63 waveforms in the PPG. So you can do traditional VA and other interesting things.

I'm finding that the wavetable can really help for emulating real sounds and contains a bit of FM like character in parts.

Was the PPG ever able to import custom waveforms? I remember seeing pics of some machine that had huge 8" disk drives, and could only guess that's what it was for?

Yeah, I think with the Waveterm you were able to import or at least draw your own waveforms.

Oh I also created a touchup version of the D-Pole UI but not sure how to share it. I used a resource hacker program to do it, so while I could not supply the file directly I could supply instructions and bitmaps if anyone was interested. The default UI of D-Pole was almost illegible.

Well if you own minihost you could rename them by hand yourself in the preset manager -- would you be interested to do this? I can provide the list.

Actually it may be easier than that now that i'm thinking of it - the plug ID is the only thing that defines (aside from the parameters - but if those are identical between the versions this might just work) what is "ok" and not I think.

So if you can supply me the factory bank for your steinberg version, I may be able to "trick" it to work - assuming that the parameters are identical.

Let me know if you want my help massaging the bank to work.

I have the Steiny version but I'll see if I can't make these work, and thanks for your notes on making sounds with the PPG. The breadth and utility of your knowledge continues to humble me.

glad to help. perhaps because i was a child during the 80's or something but i find the ppg to be capable of making some bass that i cant get elsewhere. i think my opinion of synths is shaped by the generation i'm from but anyway this thing is pretty great for bass and pads.

@yeager; yep. looks the same mine looks slightly different - i added some notes to the UI (gotta love that reshacker and plugs that strictly use those types of resources) and about page (added a signal flow map and some more notes).

@tekalo; i wont be loading your steinberg version bank in i was simply going to diff it (visually compare it side by side) with my version in hex editor to see if i could determine the vst id - my theory is that if the synths are the same the only thing we need to change to get these into "steinberg compatible" territory is the vst id in the bank itself - which is probably doable with just a text editor in hex mode (like ultraedit). i was offering my time to investigate it for you, if you dont want me to i wont.

i've considere building some utilities to work with presets on my own for fun, one of the ideas i had was a utility to handle just this issue - no host i've used lets you change the id's in banks. i've found i was able to salvage some allegedly incompatible presets this way for some older plugs that break the compatibilty only for the id change in a plugs evolution but the parameters are identical as are the ranges and such.

just let me know if you want me to try it but to do so i need the steinberg bank.

ah. i was wrong tekalo. these are very different. it's not just a header id. the whole thing is different.

i was thinking i could give you a list, but it wont match up with the presets you have anyway because when i sorted the bank and organized everything i exported as fxp files, which i then reimported (to get them to be sorted in the final bank by category) - so even if i gave you a list, it would do no good because the names wouldn't match the sounds

if you are really keen tot get the sounds sorted you could use minihost like i did and rename them with the preset manager one by one, then export them to fxp files and reimport them in (to sort them).

i already explained the 'enhancements' i made to the patches and you could do the same thing.

took about 1 hour total for everything i did (but i'm a fast typer).

Do I need to switch something in PPG to trigger that? Haven't used the PPG in a while, gj. Oh, and I'm also among the "classic Steiny" users.

Me too. And the Steiny version's automation is broken, at least over here. I can't control the interface from Midi or NI Kore. I've tried everything I can think of, reinstall, etc.

Can't update with the latest Waldorf version, it doesn't support steinberg's version ; need to buy again, I guess.
