I'm considering purchasing Omnisphere (and Camel Audio Alchemy) in the next month or 2. I currently own a few VST synths which I may sell if Omnisphere can replace them. Plus I want to trim down the instruments in my arsenal to the bare essentials.

Listed below are the synths/romplers I'm considering retiring If I was to get Omnisphere and Alchemy. Which ones would you keep and which ones would you get rid of?

Sonik Synth 2
Sylenth
Gladiator
Cakewalk Dimension Pro
Cakewalk Rapture
Zebra
Albino 3
Arturia Minimoog
Minimonsta
Nexus 2
Trilogy
Vir2 Syntax

Thanks in advance for all feedback.

Ugh, sadly I'm in the exact same position. I really wanna get Omnisphere but it's like, I've got so many damn synths already.

What other transformations can you apply to samples? Sync? Ringmod? Waveshaping?

Post

you can use Sample start modulation, Timbre Shift and Crush, FM, Ring Mod, Waveshaping, Granular, Harmonia and unison on the samples.
Sync is only available for the VA side of things.
That said-i dont know any synth that would allow sync for samples.

Post

For samples...

* Timbral (formant) shifting
* Bitrate shifting ("Crush")
* Sample start
* Frequency modulation with variable frequency, keytracking on/off, multiple shapes, variable depth
* Poly ring modulation
* Wave shaping
* Unison, granular, or harmonia (only one at a time)

These are all stackable, and all parameters can be modulated as far as I can tell.

No sync for samples, but there are definitely more than enough ways to mess with them. A lot of the factory presets REALLY take the sound sources WAY out there. Somehow, an ebowed banjo turns into a huge pad, for example.

edit: Beaten to it :)
Shreddage 3 Stratus: Next generation Kontakt Player guitar, now available!

Wow... :o
These are all stackable,
Stupid question: does that mean parallel or in series? If the latter: can you change the order? Thanks in advance.

Eric
After spending a few days I can say that Omnisphere is solid proof of you and your team's love and passion for music and technology.This thing will certainly will reduce my AU folder.
Thank you and best of luck for your future projects.Hope you are planning a DAW btw :) I wouldn't imagine what would come out.
Thanks again

ya +1
...but DAW is a little away from what they do so well.
Now a "Spectrasonics Sound Design Lab". That is what they do and I would love to see a Kyma type plugin.
Cheers Eric... I too have spent the weekend with Omnisphere and it is everything you said it would be.
Thankyou!

I don't have Omnisphere yet (I'm ALWAYS a late adopter, preferring to have all the kinks ironed out first). Your list contains some of the best on the market, except for Sonik Synth 2. I think you should get rid of that thing (horrible tiny UI, lackluster sounds for the most part). If you want a really good classic synth anthology to replace it, Ultra Focus is FAR better (it's been renamed to Synth Anthology). The bread n' butter sounds in Sonik Synth 2 can also be easily replaced by any of the superior libraries like Colossus, Goliath, Muse...etc.

Osc sync does'nt really make sense on samples,only on single cycle ones. It would be interesting to hear how it is implemented.

Since we don't have tutorial videos yet I don't know for sure, but it sounds like it's in series, and in a locked order.

fyi, the only one in that list where it clearly makes sense to be able to change the order is the waveshaper, and that is indeed movable. You can put it anywhere in the processing chain prior to the effects. See the Waveshaper section of the reference guide for details.

Ah, that's great!
