Well this demo, like any others I have time to whip up with my schedule, doesn't really show off the power of Omnisphere. But a lot of people asked for isolated filter tests so I stuck them in here with a drum loop (just to keep it from being easy to sample).
This is a live recording of the output of my host as it played a loop while I moved through the filters for the Omnisphere patch. It starts with no filter at all and then moves on from the first LP filter until it gets to the last. The timing of the changes isn't entirely consistent because I was doing it by hand in realtime. It takes almost 3 minutes.
The filter cutoff and resonance are modulated by envelope and synced LFO. The pattern is deliberately as simple and repetitive as it can get in order to make it easy to compare filter types.
Resonance can get very high (since it goes up to maximum) so be careful while listening.

This uses the same pattern/loop as the last test but this time emphasizes the oscillator options instead of the filter. Once again, this is a recording of live tweaking with no intent save to show some of the ways the features can mangle the sound if you'd like them to.
The entire test is done with a single layer of "synth" oscillators as opposed to sampled ones. Most of the availble parameters in the oscillator section are modified over time including FM, waveshaping, ring modulation, shape, symmetry, hard sync, etc.
It gets pretty weird and unmusical at points, but that's sort of the point: this is just to show how far you can mangle sounds without even reaching for the filter, FX or modulation matrix.

All depends on what you are used to I guess. Generally speaking, there's a lot of room to expand or trim the CPU performance and if the hard drive can't keep up with disk streaming, you can disable streaming entirely (not an issue I've had myself so far).MaxSynths wrote:Thank you Per!
Mmmm the CPU load seems quite highI suppose a good pad sound with long release and a lot of pedal can make the CPU load hit 100% in a snap.
But given the fact that you can have up to 16 layers running at once, each of them with the ability to add unison/harmonia, it's very easy to create a pad that uses up 100% CPU... if you want to.

They are all either 1 or 2 layers. Many include FX in the patch and some include unison modes, etc. So if you turn off the FX and/or unison it goes down a bunch.

It's not 64bit (yet) though I'm sure it runs on x64 systems fine.

Yes, that's right because it's only the attack portion of the sample that get used if you sync it with a single cycle waveform, but in vaz 2010 you can sync one sample oscillator with another sample oscillator and then it get's interesting.jupiter8 wrote:Osc sync does'nt really make sense on samples,only on single cycle ones.
