I'm an old pro (not any more though). Now I'm just in to having fun with music (like when I was a little kid in the basement!)-not interested in making a living with it-did it for 40 years,,,toured the US with Bob James... Kirk Whalem & others... blah blah blah.

I do use a guitar synth as my midi controller? ...if that's what you meant.???

Hmm Midi guitars. I've just done a quick track with Omni only using a guitar stack patch then accompanied it with a couple of pads. The thing is, I can't play guitar but I think I could make a more convincing guitar tune than this effort.

Is it just me or does the timbre shift effect seem not to do much of anything on a lot of the sound sources?

the timbre shift works only on multisamples.
most of the long ambient samples f.e. are single samples so you dont get any timbreshift.
You can use timbre crush on all waveforms.
i like to assign full velocity to timbreshift, set the TS value all the way to the left and call up mulisampled synthwaves.
that gives me a very unique formantlike filter sound.
with some sounds its also interesting to reverse the effect so that high velocities result in very low timbreshifts and low velocities in high ones.

Ehm sorry if this has been already asked: what about the CPU load? Is it a CPU killer or has a moderate CPU usage?

Here, this was back on around page 7 or so of this thread.

This thing being so ever powerfull and flexible, how is it on computer resources? Must be CPU intensive I imagine?

Well, my initial impressions, having had only a quick play around last night -

1) GUI launch - hello, anyone home? It took an eternity.
2) GUI layout - all as expected, makes sense so far and pretty much in keeping with the general Spectrasonics 'vibe'.
3) CPU usage - I'm probably on the minimum spec PC for this beast (2gb of ram etc) and so far no problems at all. Mind you, scrolling through presets, hitting one key repeatedly and saying 'wow' isn't exactly the toughest test..
4) Overall - I really think this will feature in my tracks, should I happen to write anything in the next few years.

What size ASIO buffer are you using? What soundcard?

When you say "sounds", are you referring to patches, soundsources or multis?

Got Omni two days after order. Installation was fast, 10 min per disc. Loading is alright, about 3-5 sec. CPU load can indeed get high.

Im running Omni on MacPro 2.66 with 5gig ram.

I am curently working on a song, i have a demo posted at myelectronica.com, you'll see right in the middle of the song list, its called Sudden moment(demo). You might pick up right away which sounds are made with Omni, pads, some ambiance and the guitar.

So far i think money well spent, a very powerful tool.
