Installing Atmosphere on Receptor

I wonder if someone can help me install Atmosphere on the Receptor.
I have owned Atmosphere for about 4 years and its a great program, which I really wanted to put on Receptor. I followed the installation instructions, until I came to the point where I had to copy the .dat file.
On locating this on my PC hard drive, it has now "turned" into a "Video CD Movie" file, the type that you would run on Nero Showtime. In fact, if I click on it, the Nero GUI comes up although it fails to load.
If I right click on the file and then select "Properties", it tells me that the file is a Video CD Move (.dat) file. I copied this to the "Samples" folder on the Receptor hard drive and after instantiating the plug in, the GUI comes up.
However, the GUI says "No Samples" and No Layers".
I am assuming this is because Receptor cannot see the file as a .dat file. How can I "convert" the file back to what it used to be ? ( I have no idea how long the .dat file has looked like this, although it hasn't affected the running of Atmosphere on my PC)
I would be pleased to hear from anyone else that has had this problem.
Thanks
Peter

I can't help you with the install itself, but the reason your .dat file shows up as a movie is that some app has been told that all .dat extension files are its provenance. Don't worry about it, it's not a real issue.
I have Atmosphere running (the original, not 1.5) on my Rev C box for some time. I suggest you remove all the current files and reinstall carefully following the directions on the Plugorama site.
Good luck.

Thanks Dasher
Are you suggesting that I uninstall the dat files from Receptor as well as my original PC, and then reinstall the whole program on my PC, before copying the dat file back to Receptor again ? If I do this , won't the dat file appear as a movie file again ?
I may try this tomorrow (don't have time today) and will let you know what happens. However, if I have misunderstood your post, please let me know !
Thanks

I don't think there is any need to uninstall the .dat file from your computer. It didn't get converted into a movie file and if Atmosphere works on your computer then its definitely fine. What Dasher was saying is that there is an entry in your computer's registry telling the computer that the default program for opening any file with the extension .dat is a movie viewer. This doesn't cause the file to become a movie file and your movie viewer will not be able to open it. Nor will it affect Atmosphere's ability to open the file. It's still an Atmosphere data file. Moreover this registry entry has no effect on your Receptor whatsoever.
I would check that the .dat file is in the correct location on Receptor. This should be on your receptor's hard drive: Hard Drive\Samples\Spectrasonics\Atmosphere.
If the .dat file is in the correct location, check to see that there is a shortcut to this location in the folder containing Atmosphere's .dll file. This should be: Hard Drive\Program Files\VST Plugins\Unsupported Plugins\Spectrasonics\Atmosphere. The shortcut file would be a file that is called "Atmosphere.dat" but which is in fact a shortcut ( or an "Alias" for our Apple friends). The idea is that when Atmosphere looks in this location for "atmosphere.dat" it gets redirected to the correct location.
If the shortcut is not present in the folder containing the .dll, you could try right clicking on the Atmosphere.dat file on your Receptor's hard drive and selecting "create shortcut" from the drop down menu. This will create a file called "shortcut to Atmospher.dat" You then cut this file and paste it to the folder containing the Atmosphere .dll. Then rename it "Atmosphere.dat."
Its also possible that the .dat file somehow got corrupted on its way from your computer to Receptor. So, if all the above fails, you could try deleting the .dat file on your Receptor and copying it over from your computer to Receptor again.
Hope this helps.

In windows you can edit the file extentions that link to programs.
Tools/folder options/file types
locate the .dat extension and delete it .. now windows doesn't link it to nero movie anymore.
The movie assosiating (sorry for the bad spelling) does not affect the working on receptor nor windows as stated by okiikahuna.
Good musings!

Thanks for your help guys. I tried your suggestions but no joy - however, I have managed to resolve the problem.
I also installed Trilogy on Receptor (which works fine)and after doing so I compared the file structure of Trilogy with Atmosphere on the Receptor hard drive. They didn't quite match - the Atmosphere .dat file was missing from the
VST Plugins\Unsupported Plugins\Spectrasonics\Atmosphere folder; however, the Trilogy version was in its equivalent folder. I therefore copied the Atmosphere .dat file over to the plugins folder and it now works OK.
Thanks again for your help.

I have also installed both Trinity and Atmospher on my Receptor. In both cases I put the data file in the appropriate place in the Samples folder, not in the unsupported plug-ins folder.
However, in looking at my Receptor now, I see the data file in both the Unsupported Plug-Ins folder and the Samples folder. It would be reasonable to assume that the one in the unsupported plug ins folder is a shortcut to the real data file in the Samples folder, where I put the file. However, when I right click on the .dat file in the plug-ins folder and select properties it tells me that it is over 3 gigabytes in size. When I click on properties for the folder it is in, it tells me that the folder has over 3 gigs of data. The data files in the Samples folder appear to be the same size.
So, my question to the cognascenti on this is board is as follows: Has Receptor actually duplicated this file in the plug-ins folder? Is it now taking up twice as much space on my hard drive? Or is this simply the way these shortcuts appear in the Linux/Wine/Receptor environment?
If its the latter, then I can only assume that shortcuts on the Receptor are fundamentally different from shortcuts in Windows or Apple's OS: rather than being simple pointers, they are in fact wormholes in the Receptor's space-time continuum. Perhaps this could be tested by creating a shortcut to, say, Sarajevo, June 27, 1914. Send an email warning Archduke Ferdinand to stay indoors for a few days and see if this prevents World War I.
Anyway, this is just my theory right now. Perhaps a Linux boffin can set me straight.

Hello forum.
I am trying to install Atmosphere on my receptor but am running into problems.
I have followed Installing-Spectrasonics-Plugins.pdf as can be found on Plugorama to the letter, but when I try to install the plugin through Receptor Remote, it just fails.
Here's what I did:
- I installed Atmosphere succesfully on a PC
- skipped the installing of atmosphere-prep-1_0-2.mrpk, since I am running the latest receptor firmware. As accurately described on Plugorama, my receptor filesystem already contained the relevant Spectrasonics folders.
- Took the Atmosphere.dll file and placed it in /Program Files/VST Plugins/Unsupported Plugins/Spectrasonics/Atmosphere. (This folder already contains Atmosphere-custom-info.xml and a linux symlink to Atmosphere.dat)
- Took the Atmosphere.dat file and placed it in /Samples/Spectrasonics/Atmosphere/Atmosphere Data/.
I never get to the final step (authorizing Atmosphere) because the .dll fails to install.
Any comments would be very appreciated!
Cheers,
Octo
