lol at chico disecting the analogy.

this thread is mainly for people to complain, i'm just glad it's mainly in this thread it's happening and not a spread of wildfire stupidity like it was with bloatosphere.

Will you give over with the painfully contrived analogies please?

I basically agree with the point you're labouring to death (13 pages so far, but yeah, you've something new to say, I'm sure you have) but for f**k's sake if you're going to bother trying to dress it up, either do it well or don't bother. I mean, seriously, what is this all about?
bk wrote:Here's the problem with your analogy: The hammer will remain useful as long as the shape of your hand remains generally the same, and as long as the nails you use with it don't get redesigned. Neither is very likely to happen.
So let's get this straight. The shape of my hand is not going to remain generally the same, and nail's are going to be redesigned. Nails. Are going to be redesigned. Right. Except ... no, not really. The shape of my hand, and I'd imagine every other f**king person's hand DOES stay generally the same, unless you put it through a mincer, and no'one has redesigned nails ever. Ever. EVER. Not once. Nails are f**king nails. They have a pointy bit and a bit you hit with a hammer. I wake up, my hands are the same shape as I went to bed. I don't wake up and they look like funnels or have hoofs. Gabriel_S wrote:You DON'T get it Paul !!!! Imagine buying a 300buck hammer and the handle broke after a couple of days. No worries, I'll just go back to the store and replace it. This time you get a better so to speak hammer but the handle is warped. Well hell, I'll just go back to the store and replace it again. You get a new hammer that's guaranteed not to break and and guess what. Within a week you find a crack in the handle. No biggy, I'll just get a replacement. You go back to the store and find out "hey, that company no longer makes hammers, and the store won't refund me. So now I'm out 300 bucks and stuck with a BROKEN hammer !!!!" Time to rethink your analogy?
Time to rethink HIS analogy? Really? Did you bother thinking about yours even once, never mind rethinking it?

In your analogy the starting point is you buy a 300 dollar hammer. A 300 dollar hammer. You bought a hammer WHICH COST 300 DOLLARS. Right. So you paid approximately 100 times the going rate for a hammer. Let's say we let you off with that. Maybe it's the first time you've ever bought a hammer, and you don't know how much they cost. Then it breaks. And you go back to the shop and get another one. But even though you're replacing one that's f**ked, you don't realise the replacement you've picked up has a warped handle. You just don't notice it. You pick it up and go, yep, this looks great. No problems with this as a replacement. It's got a hammery bit on the end, and a handle I can hold. Nice big handle. Can't see any reason not to get this. Nothing the matter with THIS hammer. I might have trouble holding it as my hands have turned into hoofs, and nails are only available in 18 metre long cubes, but I'll give it a shot. It could happen. Maybe you got distracted by shiny paper or the sound of footsteps.

Then for some unfathomable reason, at some future point, you notice. So you go back and get one that's guanranteed not to break ... guaranteed not to break? A hammer? Where did you buy that then? The shop which guarantees things don't break? ToysRDon'tEverBreak?

To be honest I can't be f**king arsed continuing. These aren't analogies people. They're just gibbering bollocks.

I agree with the point you're failing to make, but please don't torture us with this convoluted shite any longer. Torture Mackie with it instead.
Well chico whether you get it or not is irrelevant. I'm certainly not here to start any flame wars. Like I stated earlier, I consider this to be an open forum now. Simple fact is this. We ALL purchased a product in good faith. The majority of the users can't get the darn thing into a working state unless you use no more than 10, maybe 20 tracks with limited/selective plugs at the best. The Mac users can't for the most part use this program at all. The users here have been more than patient. We've been asking Mackie for any sign of life for MONTHS and all we get is ...well....nothing!!!!! We purchased a product and have every right to be upset with the results to say the least. If Mackie would have the decency to at least give some kind of a response (which they haven't and more than likely won't), I'm sure this thread wouldn't be nearly 14 pages long....BUT THEY HAVEN'T !!!!.

Then again, if you're happy with it, well, more power to you my friend, but with all due respect, don't go flamning the people that have dished out their hard earned money and have gotten a broken product as a result with no fix in sight in the near OR distant future.

BTW, I'm also glad these threads are confined to this post and are very relevant to it. Just read the original OP's title ;)

@ chico - since you decided to pile on against the hammer/nail analogy.......

Nails have been redesigned over the centuries and continue to be redesigned through modern times. I'm sure that even today there are fastener engineers somewhere in the world redesigning nails to accommodate new uses. Main function is to connect 2 objects together, of course, but the design does evolve over time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nail_(fastener)

From wooden pegs/dowels in mating holes to various metals in flat-cut, forged, spiral fluted, super-strong alloys, those with heads that sink to below the surface, those that can be broken off to hide them, etc.

I agree the analogy was somewhat long-winded - but the point is right on; and agree with the complaints put forth.

The function of T has basically remained the same purpose since we all fell in love with it at version 1 - record and edit audio and midi data for the purpose of making music or other audio program material. Just like the function of nails has remained the same over time.

If Mackie are out of the game - they should refund Mac owners their purchase price of T3. Seems there is enough evidence that it's necessary. How many licenses do you think they sold to Mac owners anyways?

I don't get it. Isn't (wasn't) Giga a Tascam thing? Is Tascam a part of Loud Technologies and I didn't notice?

Umm yes - that'll teach me to post when I'm half alseep.... I mean't to draw a parallel between their decision over Gigasampler.... sorry! ;)

Can anyone point out a time in the last 50 years Greg Mackie arrived on time or early except for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks?

1: It wasn't my analogy to begin with. I was just trying to show PaulG how f**ked his was.
2: Maybe I didn't state it properly, but essentially I'm trying to say exactly the same thing you're yammering on about. Hands and nails are not likely to change, ever! But software platforms do!
3: FFS. Somebody kill this idiotic thread, so I won't be tempted to post in it anymore! :hihi:

You think Mackie are going to let Cakewalk get away with this...

http://www.sonarvstudio.com/index.php

That could upset the MCU sales a bit. I'm thinking it's so quiet because T4 is in development with the aim of better integration with the MCU.

Post

Hey, you're right, probably the Mackie dev.s, the PR men, the product development people and the strategic directors are just too busy to bother to post a single acknowledgment in a forum in umpteen months cos they've been all been locked away in a room developing T4 as a rival to this thing - and they'll give it away free for everyone who bought T3 as an acknowledgment of how buggy it all was, along with the control surface for free - and it'll work with every vst ever, and every OS, and every interface, including being great on a Mac.....

Sorry, got carried away there - it obviously still won't work on a Mac! :x :)

I went from Cubase 5.0 to Tracktion 1.3 Mainly because I did not want to pay the 300ish to upgrade to SX.

but I was using C5 on a top of the line computer at the time and I can remember having a TON of problems. 'poof' type crashes and lost projects. no matter what the SW it will have its problems...

I am of the camp that T4 will come out. EVERY who records today has to touch a computer. Mackie is really good at making hardware, it would be stupid on mackies part to totally dump their SW.

Mackie is really good at making controllers why would they want to use someone else to design their SW.

I have worked at places where catastrophic failures have occurred and usually that particular department gets cleaned. I am guessing when mackie first bought tracktion from Jules they were not quite prepared so they probably pulled together a SW dept with temps/ contractors and ppl that were already on the pay role. Jules left after his work was done on T2 and every one there was probably like holy f**k this is really hard to support a product that needs this much attention.

I think that mackie needs to update its SW dept before they can update T3 and for someone to come in an fix a problematic project is not cheap because no one wants to be a janitor (we became engineers to create not clean up).. that means that the project manager has to convince the VP of something to fund a team of SW guys to fix their product, which usually is not an easy task.

If i am completely off target then I have already made my choice on my host i will move to but I think we will see T4 or something host like from mackie and dont be to surprised if this forum goes away..
