Hi,
another vote for AUDACITY!
You can record up to 16 tracks at once if your Hardware can do so!
And : it's easy to use and free.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Give it a try.

Audacity can indeed record multiple channels at the same time IF the audio device supports it.
Now i have an MBox Pro here and so it should be possible.
But when telling Audacity i want to record 4 chans at once, i get an error.
Anyway, even if that would work, then note it will result in a single file having multiple channels.
This is not yet 100% what MUTOOLS_newbie asked.
He'll then also need an easy tool to split the 4-channel audio file into 4 mono audio files.
Can Audacity do that too?

OK, popmoney and ynot have won the 1:1 scale marble statue...
I installed Reaper and after some more panicking I could make it record 4 channels at once and save them as 4 separate WAV files...
There is something odd that needs to be fixed (I cannot control the recording level with ANY of the software cursors in Reaper nor in the sound card utility manager: only the hardware potentiomenters on the card do actually change the level) but I think I've gone far OT with this and don't want to upset the moderators.
Thank you again to everyboby, you saved me from one more sleepless night...
