Hello,

I don't know if anyone can help but it you can, many thanks in advance.

I had allocated this past sunday to the installation my copy of EWQLSO on my Receptor. I wasted my entire day.

About a year or two back I sent my Receptor to Muse because it kept crashing and rebooting. I don't know what the problem was but while they had it, they talked me into the Rev C upgrade and they upped the OS which is now currently 1.520060418 (like they really did that many updates to version 5). When I got it back, I put it in the rack, made sure that it did work and essentially left it unused since then because I was kind of disgusted with it and needed time to get over it. http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... t=#2108996

I had orginally bought the machine as part of the Colossus/Receptor promo several years ago, which meant that the software (Colossus) was supposed to be preinstalled. Well it wasn't and I had to do that myself. That experience left a real bad taste in my mouth.

Since I am now upgrading to Sonar 8, at last I made the decision to put Receptor to work and get the orchestral library on it, which as already mentioned, was to happen last sunday. To be perfectly clear, when I got it back from being fixed, I bought a a keyboard/mouse and monitor for Receptor to avoid using real estate on the DAW monitors. Prior to that I did the network thing for the remote gui and also mounting the drive. No problem at all networking and mounting the drive.

SO, last sunday, I got up early to tackle the beast. Fired it up, go to mount the drive and get the old "\\Muse\Hard Drive" ( I named it Muse) not found error. Open up remote gui over network, no problem. Ping Receptor over network via command prompt, everything is talking fine, packets sent and received, no problem. So I'm like, what the ? Check and rechecking, searching the forum for threads with solutions, rereading the manual and spending lots of time at Plugorama looking for a solution. No joy. Everything works except hard drive won't mount. All setup parameters appear correct. Note: I have never used Uniwire but I did install the PC tool sunday. Uniwire is enabled but it is not found either.

So now I'm left with thinking, did Muse rename my drive and not document it when they sent it back? Now before anybody goes to thinking I totally have lost it, perhaps I should also mention that I am one of the unlucky guys that bought a brand new Receptor that couldn't initially be authorized because some careless person at Muse had failed to put it's serial number in the Plugorama database before shipping it. More bad taste. That happened to quite a few others too.

I called Muse on monday but I did not receive a call back. Any help would be really be appreciated.

Another important NOTE: I have not been able to find any mention of this at all regrading mounting the Receptor drive, but the DAW (machine which I would install from) has never had XP sp2 installed. I figured if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Is it possible that could be an issue with the Receptor os I have now ? But then again, it pings ok so I doubt it.

Regards,

Danny

Danny,

Have you tried updateing your OS to the most recent version, 1.7.20080616? and maybe download the new Receptor Tools.

Bet ya that will take care of your issue.

Hi Mortimer,

Thanks for your suggestion. But how could I update the OS without being able to mount the drive ?

Hmm.

I think you should download the new Receptor Tools, and try connecting to the Receptor one of two ways, either by the NAME you gave it (set up menu, and yes, it is possible we renamed the drive if we installed a new one,or reformatted the old one) or by the IP ADDRESS. I have a PC and for some reason the networking is really flaky on it, and I have to refresh my IP CONFIG for it to recognize Recepor... I think it might be a copy protection software thing - I'm not sure.

But the new Receptor Tools gives you the option of connecting via NAME or IP Address, and the One button Mount hard drive feature is really nice...

I'm sorry that no one returned your call - that is not like us, and i apologize. Please give us another call if this doesn't work, and I'll make sure that someone calls you back for sure. Sorry about that.

Cheers

That extension is most likely about the publish date, not the number of compiles (still - 2006? not 2008...)?

They do try hard to get it right, give them a bit of slack.

I had already installed that (Recepetor tools) as mentioned above. You can't mean it when you say that you guys could have renamed my drive, could you ? NO documentation ? How would I ever know the name of the drive ? How would Receptor tools ever mount the drive either because it's trying to mount a drive named, "Hard Drive"? I will be forever stuck with a Receptor that I cannot install anything on. HELP !

As I said, Receptor is definitely on the network. IT pings fine. IT also pings fine using the address. Remote viewer works fine. But "Hard Drive" is not found. If it is a copy protection thing, where did that come from. As mentioned above, prior to you guys doing the upgrade, I could mount the drive at will, no problem.

Yep, I can see that it would be nice.

I was taken aback by the lack of a return call also . Someone has called me back in the past, well, at least they did when I needed to send it back because it was crashing..

I think you should call again, ask for Rick or Torin, and lets get down to what is going on. I still don't understand why you can't log onto the drive using the explicit IP address. Something strange is going on...

Sorry for the delay...

Hi,

I think the Receptor's File Sharing may have gotten turned off. (Mine seems to reset itself often)

On the Receptor itself:
1. Press "Setup" button
2. Spin "Press For Channel" knob to the right until "File Sharing" is displayed
3. Spin "Press To Apply" knob to the right until display reads "On"
4. Press "Press To Apply" knob to save selection

Now on the PC:
1. Restart "Receptor Tools" application
2. Click on the "Receptor Drive" button on the right hand side of the Receptor Tools application window

I was able to mount or unmount my Receptor Drive this way.

Hope this helps...

Peace,
Brad

Brad, this is an excellent suggestion, and I'm embarassed that I didn't think of it. Unfortunately a lot of people turn File Sharing off either accidentially or not knowing why it is turned on ,and when it is off you cannot connect to the hard drive with a PC. In fact we're going to be removing this option to turn off file sharing in the next release because it can cause this situation...

Good call, this is very likely the cause.

Hi Brad,

I followed your instructions exactly. I even printed them out to be sure. Unfortunately my Receptor does not have a menu option called "FILE SHARING". I sure was hoping you had nailed it. Thanks anyway.

The specific error I receive is:

The path '\\Receptor1\Hard Drive' does not exist or is not a directory. That is from Receptor tools >hard drive button.

Any other suggestions?

Hi,

I'm sorry that you are still having a problem connecting to your Receptor's hard drive.

I noticed you said "\\Receptor1\Hard Drive"...

...the default name of a Receptor is "Receptor-1"...did you change your Receptor's name to "Receptor1"?

Please let me know two things. The name of your Receptor and the Windows Workgroup name. (The workgroup on your Windows PC should be the same name)

To check the name of your Receptor:
1. Press the "Setup" button on the front of your Receptor
2. Rotate the "Push For Channel" knob (to the right) until "Name" appears on the upper line of the display

Please let me know what your Receptor "thinks" its name really is. Thanks.

To check the Windows Workgroup name from the "Name" screen:

1. Since you should still be in "Setup Mode", just rotate the "Push For Channel" knob again, this time turn it to the left two screens.

Please let me know what the Receptor's Windows Workgroup name is. Thanks.

Peace,
Brad

Brad,

Thanks again for your help. The name is not the issue. Long ago, I renamed the Receptor "Muse" because I got tired of typing in so many letters under the old system that was used. But when I installed the new RECEPTOR TOOLS, I renamed it again "Receptor1". And it appears to me that the tool automatically finds and defaults to whatever the Receptor name is. OR at least it does here. It is now remaned "Muse" once more.

I wanted to update the thread. Rick from Muse called monday 10/13. Actually, he must have looked up my number from previous info. When I asked Muse to call back 2 weeks ago, I only left my home number but he was able to find my cell number from long ago. Is that cool or what ?

Torin called me today, 10/14. I told him I had tried everything that Rick had sugested but still no joy. Well, not everything. Rick seems to think that there is a possiblility that because the DAW has never had XP SP2 installed, that could possibly be the problem. He also said (iirc) that Receptor tools will prolly not work with the Receptor OS system I have installed.

I tried running it from a run command and receive nothing but errors. But I can ping it from the dos prompt and it checks out ok.

Anyway, I cannot find SP2 on MS site. All service pack 2 links take me to SP3. I would rather get rid of my Receptor than install SP3 on my DAW. Maybe for SP 2 also but I will do a system checkpoint and hopefully rollback if some of my stuff gets wacked. So I have 3 new questions.

1) Can anyone verify if Receptor Tools works under XP with no service pack updates?

2) Does anyone have a copy of Service pack 2 ?

3) Can anyone verify if Receptor tools works under Receptor OS 1.5xxxxxx ?

I am certain that this is some kind of Receptor or win FILE SHARING issue that doesn't want to play nice. The remote viewer absolutely works wihout fail. In fact, because I have a monitor and keyboard plugged directly into Receptor, it is easily verifiable that whatever changes I make to a screen at either location (Recepptor or Remote) instantly shows up on the other screen. Even the mouse trails are identical on both screens.

Hi Danny,

I'll try to help you out again...change the Receptor's name!

The Receptor's name CANNOT be the same as the WORKGROUP NAME!!

:)

Oh yeah, make sure the Workgroup name on your PC is the same (MUSE) as on your Receptor.

Then...upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 2 at this location

Brad
