Line6 Toneport and MU.LAB?

Evening!

I'm looking at one of these before the end of the year- is anyone using one on a Mac with MU.LAB or is savvy enough to give me a Go/ No-No?

I think the "works with leading software" bit is scaring me a little, but it has to be the typical spec talk, right?

Is there anything to suggest MU.LAB won't recognize a USB Audio interface?

On a related note - is it possible to record into MU.LAB without such a thing as a "proper" sound device?
It works in both Audacity and Renoise - I just plug my guitar into the line-in of the Mac Mini and record it (on a fairly lofi level and without monitoring). In MU.LAB I only seem to get an option of "core audio device: built-in output/built-in input", the latter of which doesn't work.
So in any case, to record into MU.LAB I'd need some kind of interface jobby, right?

I can record my guitar into MU.LAB without any external hardware (although I get better results with a home made preamp) on a G5 iMAC by choosing "line in" as input in the sound control panel and "built-in audio" as the core audio service in MU.LAB's audio setup. I can also monitor what I am recording if I set up the racks properly first. (I don't remember how I did this but I am happy to check.)

Can't think of why this would not work on your setup unless there is no input jack on a Mac Mini like there was on some early Macbooks. Don't forget to adjust input volume in the sound control panel - with no preamp this will probably have to be turned all the way up.

This is freaky! Unless I'm missing some other sound preference pane, there's something very wrong here. I adusted the volume meter with the two oldschool microphone icons and the meter even went up when I touched my cable's plug - yet I couldn't hear anything.

MU.LAB's audio setup doesn't give me a "Built-in audio" option, but a choice of "built-in input" and "built-in output". When I choose "built-in input" it says "couldn't start audio engine".

I'm sorry to bring up this so late in the testing but I've only recently started to try to record Audio, and it seems to be a Problem only affecting me.

I can record perfectly into Renoise and Audacity using just the line-in so I think the weirdness is in MU.LAB.

I have just read the documentation about recording, but in my setup (iMac G5 running OSX 10.4.11) it was not necessary to set up an aggregate device.

hm. This is a little weird because I'm using the exact same OS down to the .11 patch (albeit on a Mac Mini). Possibly A Mini-specific issue

Well I went out and bought a Line 6 UX1 a few months ago. It plugs into a USB port. (Like an expensive dongle.) The software doesn't excite me all that much, but there are effects etc that come with it that could reduce your VST count.

Yeah, it "just works" as expected. (Once it's set up.)

The UX1 is a bit bigger than Tone Port GX, but can take a guitar plug (normal size) and/or a "pro" microphone. Also 2 line level inputs, and 2 analog outputs.

I had ideas of singing and playing guitar at the same time. You can use it stand alone to play through the Mac's speakers if you don't have an amp. There's a headphone output if that bothers others....

The normal imac or mini analog audio input is ok for occasional use.

that's good to hear - I'm still on the fence now that the line-in issue is sorted (and I have an old GM200) but it looks like the perfect jobbie for me.
