Sorry but what is ECS again? I have bought most of the Linplug instruments and do not recall this feature.

From the RM5 manual....

ECS
The RMV's ECS (Easy Controller Setup) makes it simple to control the RMV from an
external MIDI controller (either hardware or software). Clicking on the ECS control's label
opens the ECS popup menu.

This menu provides the following seven options: Off, Learn, Clear, Clear All, Load, Save
and Rest.Fact (Restore Factory Settings). These are described in detail below. ECS can
be activated directly, without the use of the ECS menu, by clicking on the ECS Indicator.

To access the ECS section click on the ECS control's label which is located in the Master
section of the instrument on the upper left of the RMV's front panel. Clicking on the ECS
button opens a popup menu containing the following items: Off, Learn, Clear, Clear All,
Load, Save and Rest.Fact (Restore Factory Settings).
To use the RMV's ECS, proceed as follows. Click on the ECS control's label and then
select "Learn" from the popup menu. Select an RMV parameter with the mouse and then
send some MIDI messages to the RMV from your MIDI source. Then select "Off" from the
popup menu. This process configures the selected RMV control so that it receives MIDI
from the source that transmitted the MIDI messages. From now on the selected RMV
parameter can be changed with using the chosen controller. In addition to this, more than
one controller can be configured to change a particular RMV parameter. In fact, up to 128
parameter/controller combinations can be defined. This does not depend on the type of
controller, nor the particular MIDI Control Change messages it sends.
ECS settings can be saved and restored using the "Load" and "Save" functions located in
the menu that pops up when the ECS control's label is clicked. In addition to this, a single
controller assignment can be cleared using the "Clear" menu item. To do this, select
"Clear" from the ECS popup menu (the ECS indicator light goes on) and move control that
is to be cleared. This de-assigns it from the MIDI Control Change message it is currently
controlled by. Make sure that the "Clear" function is switched off by clicking the "Off" menu
item after all de-assignments have been completed. The "Clear All" menu item clears all
parameter/controller assignments at once. The Rest.Fact (Restore Factory Settings) menu
item restores the RMV's MIDI assignments to their default values.
Note that ECS assignment can also be performed directly by clicking on the ECS Indicator.
Clicking on the ECS Indicator performs the same function as using the "Learn" and "Off"
items from the ECS popup menu. In this case, proceed as follows. Click on the ECS
Indicator so that it is illuminated. Select an RMV parameter with the mouse and then send
some MIDI messages to the RMV from your MIDI source. Then click on the ECS Indicator
so that it is no longer illuminated. This process configures the selected RMV control so that
it receives MIDI from the source that transmitted the MIDI messages. From now on the
selected RMV parameter can be changed with using the chosen controller.

Thanks Xenox.

Looks cool. RMV is the one Linplug instrument I don't have. Is there ECS for Albino or Cronox 3? Anyway I hope I'll have some time to try this with Saxlab on the weekend.
From the RM5 manual....

Thanks

Yes it is in almost all Instruments. Just Octopus lacks it.

Thanks Peter,

I need to look more deeply into the instruments I use. This is what comes from relying on presets and not bothering to learn how to program my own sounds.

That's no problem if you're only using preset sounds but you can get much more out of the sounds if you modulate while you're playing... Believe me, much more fun.. :D

Yeah especially with an instrument like Saxlab2!

Yes. But using this on synth sounds is really a lot of fun, too..

Yep when the modulation matrix is not so extensible, you can come short on modulations slots when designing presets. And thats when it becomes interesting to get a clear comprehension of systems like Ecs or host automation. Ecs is cool becauise you wont have to rechoose all midi cc/parameters routing with each patch in your host.

Saves a lot of time.

And like Frank stated it above, is one of the keys to more expressivness.

What is really interesting in Saxlab is that you can change the value of the LFO matrix modulation itself (ie modulate the modulation, for example change the speed of LFO for the vibrato)

Very cool. I will try to see if I can understand this in practical terms.

Thanks for the help. It is much appreciated.

ECS works fine in Sonar 7 btw. Problem is that I cannot find the LFO matrix modulation in Saxlab 2 to try what you are suggesting.
