Help with midi controller programming...

Hi!

I'm quite new to both midi and the receptor, and I need some help with how to program my midi controller to change sounds and midi channel. I've managed to create a snapshot bank where one sound is playing and the others are bypassed; when channel one is playing, two, three and four are bypassed, etc. I can change sounds, but then I have to both change channels on the receptor AND the controller. In a rehearsal/live situation, this is way to slow and complicated. The controller I'm using is a "midiplus origin 61", and it has a section in the manual which I think might be partly covering my problem, but since it's not the easiest of manuals to understand I've failed to solve it. The controller has eight sliders and eight knobs...

I know this probably is child's play in the world of midi, but it's mighty complicated to me....

not sure I fully understand, but I think you mean you are having to change the channel on the controller that it's transmitting (?) - If that's it, you don't have to do that.

If you have 4 channels on Receptor being used, change them all to listen on the same midi channel as the controller is sending. For example if you are sending on midi ch. 6, set all Receptor channels to listen for that channel. Then sending program changes in your snapshot amount to simply making a certain receptor channel(s) active.

I'm not familar with your controller, but one approach might be to have all of your Receptor snapshot channels set to the same midi channel number (as transmitted by your controller), that way you only need to send a program change from your controller when you want to change patches on Receptor. For example, hitting whatever button on your controller sends the first bank and program change number to Receptor which calls up the proper snapshot bank and patch 1 (patch 1 being Receptor channel 1 active and the others bypassed). Controller button 2 changes to Receptor patch 2 (within the same snapshot bank) (patch two perhaps has Receptor channel 2 active and all of the others bypassed). Each program change from your controller would select another patch on Receptor with a different combination of active and bypassed Receptor mixer channels. Again, all of the Receptor mixer channels are set to receive the same midi channel number. This would provide a basic level of control and quick selection of patches. There may be other ways (better ways?) to accomplish this depending on your controller. I hope this helps. I'm able to quickly change (one button push) from Scarbee Roads, to Ivory Piano, to B4II, and/or Pro 53 within a snapshot bank from my Yamaha S90es - very cool.
