Love this synth. It's not just a tool or an environment, it's a musical instrument. Just curious where the name "Zebra" came from? Did Urs sit down at the breakfast table and say, "Giraffe? Nope. Hippo? No. Rhesus Monkey? Hmm... maybe... Wait, I got it!!! Hairless Yak! No, that sucks..."

Yeah... definitely the stripes. I was like "call it Tigger" but Urs didn't want a lawsuit from a cereal manufacturer (the suit against ImageLine for calling their software product FruityLoops was clearly weighing on his mind). So he called it Zebra.

hey you sound like you have been to an african game reserve recently!impala, bushboek, mountain reed boek, bontebok, rhino, look a zebra - each time i remembered a certain synthesizer...u-he synths are intrusive to your mind!

U-he Zebra was unique in that the GUI came before the VSTi itself. He basically posted a design concept, and we here at KvR got to bid on what each knob would do. You see the second XY box on the 'Perform' page? That's my $20 at work buddy. Search KvR, it's all there.

Is very simple.

Piano/Synth keyboard -> black and white stripes, quite straight
Zebra pattern -> black and white stripes, quite organic looking
Hence: Zebra synth -> organic sounding synth
