Exactly my point, only from the other side of the fence. :)

By the way, I was curious to see if there were ways to uninstall pace. and came across this site via google

have no idea if it works and use at your own risks.

i doubt that.
Yes, but it IS up to the developer. You had a couple of bad experiences, I get that. But I think those are the exceptions rather than the rule. The courts wouldn't have to get involved because most devs are fine with giving you more installs if you call/email them. So again, I don't know where the courts HAVE to get involved. Actually, any court you go to would ask if you tried to solve the issue with the developer first. If you didn't, the case would be thrown out until you did try.

I am just trying to say that you shouldn't judge all devs based on your bad experiences. It's not really fair to them, is it?

i agree it shouldn't have to come to that and it doesn't ever as far as i know, but i was talking "ultimately" a company that can not prove abuse probably is blowing smoke up your butt.

i'm not really judging developers here, as much as i'm pointing out the difficulty that i've had with pace c/r and my reflection that it's pretty ridiculous that a company can't tell if "hardware" install abuse is taking place. ik multimedia bases their c/r solely on hardware. you can reinstall windows and their product 700 times on the same computer and it will never ask you to re-authorize. pace c/r is quite different and, imo, very inconvenient. i'm not sure why a company would want to manually receive multiple authorization requests for the same hardware. seems like a waste of time and effort.

Thanks, zvenx !
Interesting reading, only 2 problems :
-- it requires a working Windows, which is exacty what we didn't have in the cases I mentioned
-- it dates from 2004, who knows what they changed since then
Anyway, useful post !

i have to temper my concern about pace with the fact that i truly love this software. i don't want to be all negative here. the microphone modelling, preset management and gui are a new world compared to what we've been used to with amplitube and guitar rig.

I installed the 1.0.1 update, and it told me my system clock was wrong, before the release date. How, I don't know...this is a daw only machine, I never check or use the date for anything, but it was a week early somehow.

Anyway I corrected this, then the demo told me I had only 4 days left instead of 11...I thought what a ripoff, I've only just got started with it. So I returned the date to the previous one...BAD MOVE.

Now it said 'your trial is ended'...aaargh! So I think, I'll clean my system and reinstall it (you can tell I know nothing about PACE at this point).

After trying to remove PACE from my system for hours, reading countless pages about other users problems too, and talking with techheads, I conclude the only sure way to remove this insidious, intrusive shit is to restore your system to a pre-PACE ghost point...which unfortunately for me is a while back.

So to conclude, my demo ended abruptly, I feel ripped off, and I'm left with a virus-like program on my computer, which to remove requires restoring an image and then anything I've installed since (like Reaper, nebula updates, etc).

So my warning is: ghost an image immediately before installing TH-1, or you may not be able to remove this PACE crap later.

No wonder so many people hate this PACE shit. f**k them, and f**k Overloud for using it. I will not touch this with a bargepole now.
Get something like 'Acronis True Image' and this little bad boy has saved my ass many a time a virus or other problems have struck. It really is worth the investment. Anyways here is a link to thier site:

http://www.acronis.com/

Hope that is useful and your system doesnt get buggered again mate. Funnily enough i use PT and have nearly all my software license's on a PACE iLok and i have never had any trouble with it  i guess its just one of those things and you gotta decide whether or not you can live with it or are totally abhorent to the way it intrudes and cannot use it. Me i like it personally but i fully understand why many loath it ;) there are not many people who seem to be indifferent on the topic  but thats always the case :hihi:

Best regards and take care

Not to mention that if you have a hard drive(internal or external) made by either Seagate or Maxtor, you can get Acronis for free. It's a branded version, but the only requirement is that the hard drive by that manufacturer has to be connected to use the software. You don't even have to use the hard drive itself. It just has to be there somewhere on the system or on a USB or Firewire port or whatever. I use it and it's fantastic. Plus, it lets you browse the disk images you create and the program has the ability to create a boot disk so you can run the entire program upon boot. Great stuff, and free! I was a rabid anti-PACE person for years, but now I have two iLoks(on a Mac Pro), and have never had any problems at all.

I wish all copy protection could become standardized. The next time I ever have to do a clean install from scratch I will have various and sundry challenge-response/disk authorization crap to deal with. Dongles will be the least of my worries.

As far as TH1, from what I've heard, I'm pretty sure I'd want to buy it if I tried the demo. But I already have a number of amp sims. One of these days, these will have new versions, and I've got to draw the line somewhere.

Bill

ironically this came out just at the time IK has a 2 for one sale and I was thinking of getting Metal or Jimi Hendrix with that special. Bought this instead and cant' be happier. You may NOT want to upgrade your present ones after trying this ;).. I know I won't especially IK and Line 6.... may do so with Guitar Rig only because it will probably be upgraded in Komplete 6 whenever that comes out and I woudl be getting that anyway.

I was afraid of that!

Fwiw, I got a Kinman for the bridge position of my (cheap but kickass) Yamaha Pacifica tele-alike and another one for the middle position of my Anderson. I Like them a lot more than the Fender noiseless set I have in my G&L. I could post some dry sound snipplets if you want.

I played with the demo of this last night

I have to say i really like the simplicity of the program (well at least how clean the interface is) - sounds really great - though I think the super distorted tones probably aren't quite as good as maybe revalver (but boy does the interface kick revalvers butt - no offence intended to the revalver dev!)

I'd grab it in a second but for the fact that its quite expensive with the current aussie dollar - any chance of crossgrade prices?

That's interesting, I used to swap pickups all the time from Dimarzio/Duncan/Fender/Rio Grande, you name it... I finally settled on Kinmans also, fantastic tone and quiet. The only thing better imo is the Suhr Fletcher-Landau pickups combined with their Backplate Silent System, which basically defeats the noise without affecting the tone at all.

And for a beautiful '59-ish sounding humbucker, the Suhr DSH is the only one I have found to split to a true single coil tone authentically:
