can I make a suggestion. Increase the the brightness, reduced the saturation till is grayscale. Increase or decrease the grad/contrast and reduced the alpha. It should give it a more metallic look as well as removing the rough edges.Leslie Sanford wrote:I had forgotten about those. Thanks for the reminder.Hlis93 wrote: did you try out my png files. Chrome shinny metals should be very easy.
Here's a new version using "blue45dark" from your collection to give the knobs a chrome look:

i like this one a lot les.
only thing i'd do is give the shadows a bit more length to make the knobs not seem so "flush" with the surface. it's one of the hardest parts always to get right.
i actually like the knobs a little bit darker - if they aren't going to be shiny there is no reason they have to be gray - i understand the contrast issue, but the shadows will help there too. i would split the difference between the old black knob you had (which looks wicked like a pro-53ish design) and the current grey.
if you add a tiny bit of gradiated stroke alone the perimeter of the knob it will give it more reflective edges and make it more convincing that it's a rough steel.
texture and lighting is everything in a design like this.
i dislike the wood one
i really like the engraved labeling. it's very convincing looking what you did there.
keep up the great work.

oh also might want to try a deep evil red instead of that blue color - it will keep the same color harmony/family in the entire design - if you do the red LED read out, you might also want to wash the entire design with a warming filter - a nice deep somewhat saturated red with a hint of violet with a very subtle/low opacity in a topmost layer.
the blue and red just kind of looks off to me.

Thanks for the tips. That's a very good point about the knob shadows. The knobs do look too flat. Based on your feedback, I've tweaked the UI:

Not sure the the shade of red of the LED display is best.
Thanks for your input, grymmjack (and everyone else's). I'm learning a lot.

that's far better ... but you should diffuse the knob borders a bit, they look a bit disrupted ... but i liked the chrome knobs too, why did you not stick with those?

I like the tone of this over all. However the parameter's box is very odd to me and looks very wrong. Did you try a very dark gray or greenish hue? I think it would work much better. But, once again, over all has a nice look to it.

Perhaps this knob would work if you want the Roland-ish look or chrome top, its dimensions are 40x40px (full .knob files this time)

Thank you! Here is the UI with the Roland-ish knobs:Hlis93 wrote:Perhaps this knob would work if you want the Roland-ish look or chrome top, its dimensions are 40x40px (full .knob files this time)
Roland-ish Knobs
I also changed the LED status box to green.
Those Roland knobs really pop out.
Here is the same UI with the old knobs only following brok's advice and using a little diffusion around the edges:
Diffused Edges
I'm posting links to the images rather than the images themselves so that I'm not taking up so much thread real estate.

Would i dare to make a comment, too ?
I think the "black leather" border above the name and lcd display is a bit big, and there is quite a lot of uneeded space at the bottom (maybe that having the time signatures horizontal would allow to make the gui 60pixels smaller ?)

cool ...though that exactly is another good example why we absoluteley need diffusion on images ... can you see, lower left of the chrome png, the disruption? there's no way to get rid of it within knobman ... doing it outside knobman is kinda fishing in the dark, when it comes to such fine adjustments ...Leslie Sanford wrote:Thank you! way better ... now a little tiny more diffusion on the embossing and all is good ....Hlis93 wrote:Perhaps this knob would work if you want Here is the same UI with the old knobs only following brok's advice and using a little diffusion around the edges:

i wouldn't mind the real estate, imo you can just link the images directly ... but that's just me ...Leslie Sanford wrote:I'm posting links to the images rather than the images themselves so that I'm not taking up so much thread real estate.

Its a sharp looking UI good job!! I always ask myself if the UI convinces me that this will be easy to use, not meaning un-complex, before I dL a plugin and this one is a 'yes'.
Also, I agree with Brok 100%, I cant get rid of that rough edge in knobman itself, I can if I made it slightly larger, export it, and then reduce the px in PHS, but thats not the point.

I'm still open to suggestions, but I think the UI has reached a stable point. I'll begin coding it up this week.
In the "About Box" I'd like to give credit to those who've helped me improve the UI:
Hlis93
brok landers
grymmjack
sinkmusic
Kriminal
Acrobat
(I think that's everyone. If not, let me know.)
Hlis93 gets special thanks for the knob.
If you'd rather not be mentioned, that's perfectly cool. You can PM me (or say so here). If you'd like for me to use your RL name, PM me. Also, if you have a website, I can put that in the About Box as well.
Thanks again for all your help. I think the UI has really benefitted from it.
Um, you can bet I'll be back with more UI's at some point.
