Receptor Pro Jr.-40 / Upgrade?

I just recently purchased one of the refurbished receptor Pro JR.-40 units that Muse Research is currently offering at sprcial pricing. I'm curious if anyone knows wheather or not the processor can be upgraded to to the more powerfull-44 (for a price of course). I would appreciate any opinions as to just how beneficial this upgrade would be. I would also like to know if the motherboard in this unit is the same as the normal Pro Jr.
Thank you for not pressing charges.

You certainly could upgrade it to the ML44 processor if you chose to do so, but I'll bet you a low fat triple latte with a shot of caramel that you wouldn't be able to tell, or feel for that matter, the difference.picker7845 wrote:I just recently purchased one of the refurbished receptor Pro JR.-40 units that Muse Research is currently offering at sprcial pricing. And please be aware that installing processors is tricky, you need to make sure you have exactly the right amount of heatsink compound and install the heatsink just right lest you damage the processor. Problems that result from customer upgrades are done at your own risk!

Thank you for the input Groovology. This helps me to decide to leave well enough alone. If I had decided to upgrade the processor, I would have definitely not done it myself, Not that I feel I couldn't do it, but there is just to much to loose. I was thinking more of letting muse do the upgrade.
While on the subject of upgrades, a previous post eluded to a future release of Receptor 2.0 as the next big thing from Muse. Do you (or does anyone) know if receptor owners will be able to upgrade their hardware to the 2.0 specs through Muse or an authorised dealer (fingers crossed - that would be great!!). And if so, I wonder how much this would cost?

ALL Receptor owners will have the opportunity to upgrade their current Receptor to the RECEPTOR 2 platform. This can be done by either returning it to us, or returning it to one of our European service centers in England or Italy.picker7845 wrote: While on the subject of upgrades, a previous post eluded to a future release of Receptor 2.0 as the next big thing from Muse. We don't currently have any dealers doing the upgrade since it is basically a brain transplant, and few dealers are able or willing to do this...
We'll be sending out Upgrade costs in an upcoming Musings newsletter in the next couple of weeks.
All the best

I just saw an add for the Receptor II in Keyboard magazine, but the website makes no mention of it nor can I find it when I search for it. I am contemplating purchase of a used Receptor, and also would like to know about costs for upgrade to II status and what it involves.

RECEPTOR 2 PRO and PRO MAX aren't shipping yet. We're down to the last major bug, and it shouldn't be more than a week or two before we're all ready to go.008man wrote:I just saw an add for the Receptor II in Keyboard magazine, but the website makes no mention of it nor can I find it when I search for it. ALL Receptor owners will be given the opportunity to upgrade. We do this for a few reasons. One is that none of us are all that happy about the idea of technology being disposable, and upgrading has a far lower carbon impact than anything we can think of. Also, we're all musicians, and we know money is tight, so offering our customers a cost-effective way to stay up with the latest and greatest seems to be the right thing to do. We've been saying for years that "Receptor is a platform" and what better way to prove it than to allow everyone to stay current? Of course for many of you, Receptor is working just fine, thank you very much, and you may not need or want to upgrade, but if you want to, the opportunity is there.
The cost to upgrade will depend on what model you own, and how long you've had it (basically, those who bought their units recently will not be charged as much as those who have had them for a while... its only fair!). Upgrade involves shipping the unit back to us (or to the UK or Italy if you're in Europe) where we will remove basically everything except the front panel and audio section, and replace everything else. You can even upgrade the front panel to the new cosmetics so it even looks like a RECEPTOR 2 PRO or PRO MAX for a nominal extra charge.
We HOPE to have all the website stuff up on Monday, and next week registered owners will get a Musings newsletter with all the fun details...
And just to prove we're actually nice guys, you are most welcome to purchase a unit second hand and upgrade it, a Receptor owner is a Receptor owner, you don't have to be the "original owner" or anything silly like that.
All the best

Wow! Groovolog, it is great to see you watching this forum and keeping up with postings! It is also great to know that if I get a used one, that I can upgrade it should I feel the need (like you said, most people probably don't need to, but many, like myself, who suffer with the "keeping up with the jones" mentality will want to).

This seems like truly excellent service, and I'm anxiously awaiting some details on the upgrade cost...but being able to run Omnisphere on the new model makes it a must-have upgrade, and will finally lure me into buying Omnisphere itself as my MacBook Pro is just at the very limit of minimum specs! If I also upgrade to a larger Hard Drive, does all my data get copied across too? I have the Receptor Pro Junior with Komplete, and have spent may happy hours adding plugins...if possible, I'd much rather not have to reload all of these. Oh, one other problem...I live in Saudi Arabia, so I hope I can ship my Receptor to either the UK or the US for the upgrade...this isn't a problem is it?

Our plan is to have three service depots handle the upgrades. One in Italy (Rod's Garage) one in the UK (Grizzly Media) and of course the headquarters here in California. I think Italy would be closest to you, but I'm not sure if they are willing to do full installation of all your software, even if it is for a fee... that would be up to them. But at least the time you spent were happy hours of installation... perhaps you'll have the opportunity to enjoy the experience againbryozoaman wrote:This seems like truly excellent service, and I'm anxiously awaiting some details on the upgrade cost...but being able to run Omnisphere on the new model makes it a must-have upgrade, and will finally lure me into buying Omnisphere itself as my MacBook Pro is just at the very limit of minimum specs! As for Omninsphere... as I've said before, it is a very critical plugin for us since Atmosphere is no longer available, and we all know how popular that plugin is (and how well it runs on Receptor)... so, please be patient a while longer, we are definitely working on it.
Ben is working on detailing the upgrade program on the website, it should go live next week... I hope I hope I hope I hope.
Happy New Year, everybody!
