MFM2 eating cpu out of the blue

Hi Urs.

I've just experienced this for the second time and I guess it's time to file a report on this behaviour. I've just installed Ableton Live Lite 7 (7.0.9) and while trying to figure out what it's capable of I set up only 2 audio channels, 1 with a drumloop and another with a chord-loop. I then added an instance of MFM2 to the chords and used the preset UH Moving Reverb. Pressed play and it played nicely for about half a minute. Then all of a sudden the audio starts to choke and the cpu-meter hits 134%(!). Resetting MFM2 doesn't help, choosing a different preset wont help either - best case it will lower the cpu-usage to about 60%.

Removing MFM2 and reinserting it fixes the problem.

I've experienced this once before using my main host of choice, Renoise. Same behaviour, but I have always been unable to reproduce it... however I do remember using the same preset.

Perhaps others have had the same odd experience?

Cheers,
- Torben.

New to me, but I guess it's a little hole where denormals can still slip through - consider it fixed with MFM 2.1 which I hope to release soon after Summer vacation.

Background: I've always switched denormals *on* in order to improve my code (better style and what not). Unfortunately, I can't cater for all musical styles / uses and there seem to be always holes where denormals would occurr against all odds. Hence I'll go easy and just switch denormals off. Saves cpu and headaches big time.

Hi Urs.

Thanks for the prompt response ;) Like I said it's not been a problem that I've experienced a lot, so it's no show-stopper for me, and I can easily wait for the next update.

Cheers.

Hello, I just thought I'd report that I'm getting a similar thing. MFM2 is often using huge amounts of CPU resulting in glitching.
I'm using Live 7.10 on PC with 2 ghz dual core chip.

Hi, just thought i'd bump this thread as this bug is stopping me from using MFM2 at all. The glitching always happens as soon as I turn up the feedback and I have no way of working around it.

Thanks

Try adding Digital Fish Phones normalizer (free VST plugin) before or after MFM2 in effect chain. If it's a denormal problem, it could work around it. It works magic with a denormal problem I'm having in Camelspace.

Same here.
Using Cubase 4.5.

Sorry, this one went below my radar.

Try these:

How do these go?

I'll try it and get back to you later today, Urs. I've seen the same thing on occasion in Kore.

So far, it seems to be working :)

More testing coming later today. Thanks, Urs!

Seems fine now, thanks a lot Urs!

Yep, works fine here, too. Only half of the ASIO load in Cubase compared to the previous version of MFM2. Thanks Urs :hyper:
