There's nothing on the bottom, except the two rubber feet and a label with the usual stuff about certifications and connections.
You can't rack mount it, because there are connections behind and a LCD screen on the front side... so you either take 6 units if you mount it vertically, or you hide the LCD if you set it horizontally. Doesn't make much sense for me...
It's just 18 cm large, 12 cm deep and 4 cm tall, weighs less than 1 Kg, you can keep it in a pocket.

I would say they're not useful at all used with a V-Machine, seems like this babyZioKiller wrote:MrRay73mk2 and EG70 require a bit more power, especially EG70, so they don't perform 100% with the V-Machine...Optomadic wrote: BTW any GS plugs tried??
has less cpu power that I've ever expected,
so far not able to load properly B4II or any other plug that has a more complicated install method than Gsi ones,

Oh shit thats tiny. Thought it was bigger.ZioKiller wrote:There's nothing on the bottom, except the two rubber feet and a label with the usual stuff about certifications and connections.

You should try to prepare a wizard file...mobilenator wrote: so far not able to load properly B4II or any other plug that has a more complicated install method than Gsi ones,

i missed it if someone asked, whats the latency specs?

I think the internal S/R is 44100, you only have an option to set the buffer size to 128, 256 or 512 buffers. It's like on every other soundcard.
With 256 buffers you get about 6 ms of latency.

on my laptop onstage im comfortable at 64 samples, i kinda thought/hoped v-machine would break into numbers like 48 or even 32.

32 samples on a 44.1 S/R would be 0,7 ms. I guess not even the faster DSP processor in the world would be so powerful to process complex audio algorithms that fast!

and here ive been blaming the OS.
i guess asio does a pretty good job getting around the OS after all.

I can run not too hungry projects at 32 samples on my Macbook.ZioKiller wrote:32 samples on a 44.1 S/R would be 0,7 ms. I guess not even the faster DSP processor in the world would be so powerful to process complex audio algorithms that fast!
Admittedly, there's still some more latency because each audio card driver adds it's own "safety buffers", but on PCI cards it's pretty low these days.
Anyways, I'm working with 64 samples all throughout in whatever projects. My overall (manually measured, to capture each and every undocumented bit) latency at 44.1 is 9.6 ms from input to output (as in a software audio monitoring scenario), using an M-Audio FW-410. More decent FW cards (especially Motu ones) go as low as 7.5 ms at the same settings. PCI (or PCMCIA) cards (such as the Indigo I/O I'm using with my old Samsung laptop) are going down to around 5-6ms at the same settings. You can divide those values by 2 for plain VSTi playing, because the input doesn't have to be processed (but you need to add the latency of your MIDI interface then, which could be something between 1-5ms, even using the most modern devices).
I'd expect a dedicated hardware box to perform at least as good. Otherwise I can't see much sense in getting any such a thing.
Cheers
Sascha

we could maybe be generous and spec it out as matching a pentium 3 machine with an average soundcard.
i guess im a little more impressed with how general purpose computers can do audio.
size would still be a selling point, and quick bootup is nice we had a power out at a show last weekend which the band got thru fine but i was rebooting during a song while playing, gasp, real trumpet for once and it took awhile to get back to the whole setup of loading nuendo and the project/vsti's. probably seems longer than it is but it was a couple verses worth of time which would be a real drag if i was a critical play all the time member like piano or bass. i can always fall back to trumpet and sax otherwise youre just standin there lookin flustered.

Ok. That'd still be quite more powerful than my old Athlon 1GHz dektop, running an M-Audio Audiophile at 64 samples all throughout. So it should match such specs.Tony Ostinato wrote:we could maybe be generous and spec it out as matching a pentium 3 machine with an average soundcard.
Seriously, besides expecting some CPU load to be taken away from my main machine, besides better live playing abilities (defenitely a premium issue for me, because playing live is mainly what my job is), I'd expect any such a thing to actually surpass possible alternatives in terms of latency, rather than just catching up.
And fwiw, quick booting times might be less of an issue as well with a laptop. Last year I've been recording a band live (through 16 channels, all running into an RME Hammerfall/PCI) in some sorta cheesy club. Because they brought some additional lights with them, the power went down for some minutes. Gues what stayed alive? Right, my laptop. I had to reboot Logic (the Windows version, wohoo!) to reinitialize the Hammerfall, but that was about it. I was up and running again *way* before the others have been ready again.
So, being able to run from batteries might just be another advance in using a laptop.

EDIT: B4 can be installed on the V-Machine ONLY IN DEMO MODE. There's no way to authorize the license on it.mobilenator wrote:so far not able to load properly B4II or any other plug that has a more complicated install method than Gsi ones,

Do you mind if I ask you for a copy of your B4II wizard?
I promise If I'm able to do one by myself
I'll share it with the community
Thanks,
