This is kind of crazy, Vojtech. You guys should really look into getting a faster download server, especially if paying customers are going to be downloading. I realize I am not a paying customer, so believe me, I'm not complaining.
But really, a 3.5GB file downloading at 20-30k is pretty unacceptable. I haven't seen speeds like that for years. I can't wait to try, and I'm looking forward to mashing as many bugs as possible, but frankly, it's going to take me 4 days to download it.
I hate to go into this territory, but if someone is trying out the demo version, they're going to see the slow download and realize they can get it 20x faster from a "certain type" of torrent site.
Maybe even look into something like Megaupload if you have to, or offer torrents to the people who don't have a problem with them.
Again, not complaining here, and I'll see it through, but man... this is 2008 (almost 2009), and I have the feeling that this alone will deter a lot of potential customers.

Yeah, you're probably right. I hope the DVD should make it easier and some torrents... Probably so.

Well, most companies even do not allow internet download. I have to assume, that on most computers you can download the work at once. But as I said, I hope DVD version will solve mostr of the problems.

I'm with everybody else on the download speeds, and also I've noticed that the online installer program is very buggy. After a while it starts to eat into my system usage and makes everything else I do with my computer very slow. I stopped the download so I could resume it later, but when I came back to it, it started at the beginning, which would be really unacceptable for paying customers when you take into account how long it takes.

Do you have an antivirus? This is very often caused by it. It takes a while, but I still think it is acceptable. New version is uploaded on 2 servers - one in Czech republic and one in USA (which is much slower...).RyanG wrote:I'm with everybody else on the download speeds, and also I've noticed that the online installer program is very buggy. In CZ none had any problems yet, I have heard occasional problems always caused by buggy antiviruses (I personally own AVG with no problems, there were problems reported with Norton I guess, but not sure).

Yeah, I had the same problem as koolkeys. However, now I am using the latest installer you posted with "fix" in the title and everyhting seems to be ok now.MeldaProduction wrote:Can anyone else confirm similar behaviour?
I started around 14:30 yesterday and I'm at 1.6gb (there were a lot of disconnects through the night). As long as there aren't too many hiccups I should have everything by sometime tomorrow.

Heh, yeah the other problem with the US server - it is often disconnecting. It has been created just to have an alternative to our CZ server (which now contains the newest version).
So this is a negative commercial: do not use www.startlogic.com...
On the other hand let's be honest - what software made of 3.5GB file did you ever download from the developer?

Hehe, well, there really are many devs who offer downloadable products of this size and larger(even some that are 30GB or so!). Although I'm betting they probably had their share of problems at first as well. So don't stress too much. Just roll with the punches and figure it all out. That's part of what beta testing is for anyways, right? To figure out what needs improved!MeldaProduction wrote:Heh, yeah the other problem with the US server - it is often disconnecting. I use AVG as well, which hasn't really given me any trouble. Although there's always the possibility of it doing something in the background. I'll try turning it off while I'm downloading.MeldaProduction wrote:Do you have an antivirus? This is very often caused by it. It takes a while, but I still think it is acceptable. Ok, Ryan please try that. If it won't help, please check in the task manager, who does the problems. And please be patientRyanG wrote: I use AVG as well, which hasn't really given me any trouble. Sorry if I seem a bit complainy, I don't mean to be - after all, this is what alpha and beta testers normally go through.
