But either way, also in that case you're still entirely dependent on the sound designers. You still can't create your own sounds or edit them the way you like...

Slight divergence from the subject matter but I think there is a very real case for having a patch creation sticky on the Lennar Digital forum so that when you really nail a new cool sound or one that has been used in a famous tune you can post it up for everyone to see! It would be really educational since everybody finds out their own secret to making sounds and looking at other peoples patches would really help out - I've got a couple of Breaks/DnB patches I would upload. Any one else think that is a good idea ? I reckon within a few months I would have all the major Prodigy(The Band , not keyboard) sounds nailed as well.

I also agree, especially as I have no idea how to even start programming any synth. Which leads me on to an answer to the OP question. I have the Nexus demo and there are some VERY nice sounds on it. I also found that the CPU usage is far lower than a synth VST as the computer isn't having to work out that much. Saying that I still prefer the synths as I dont like the idea of having to pay a lot of money for more presets.

links don't work and i was sooo depending on these to get my track to no1 in the charts, now i have to find an alterior way

Actually Nexus uses more CPU than Sylenth1 on most presets.

They work fine here. But if you copy them to your browser instead or directly clicking them, you may need to remove the space that kvr adds to links for some reason.

Then i'm even happier i'm in the group buy. My other two VST's (Predator and Massive) are very CPU hungry but the Nexus demo i'm using uses FAR less on average.

just saw this ... and yes, you're right. nexus has a full va synthesis under the hood. however, imo they're not comparable, as nexus can't be programmed from scratch, it's a tweak-the-preset-you-like synth, based on real osc's and a myriad of samples. sylenth is a fully from scratch programmable synth.
they're both hero's in their own league ...
