Hi nosuch,

yeah, haha, I got a similar request from an employee of a certain company 8-)

Well, I guess it's possible, because I'll probably do a VST/PC version anyway.

But: There is only one major virtual instrument host on X that still does VST only. And they promised AU support long time ago. - It's not their priority, but I can imagine that at the time a VST version is possible, they might have added AU support.

Zebra will stay AU only for quite a while now, because I got so many serious feature requests, that I want to put in there. - I can do that in AU, because I can pertain backward compatibility, due to some of AUs convenient concepts. But I can't seriously do that in VST, especially not when maintaining different formats.

So, for a VST Version, we'll first need to see Zebra V1.2 or so, with a load of additions and nice surprises (promised!).

It depends on a lot of factors (how my social and economical life develops) for an if and a when.

Cheers,

;) Urs

Actually, with the VST-RTAS adapter coming soon, wouldn't that open up the doors for Pro Tools users as well? (Of course, we can bet that Pro Tools will NEVER support AU also. ;) )
Remember the iLokalypse Summer 2013

Samples and presets and free stuff!

Come on! I need an MAS version too! Nobody uses these other formats anymore. Just MAS! :P

Let's do a Ferret Format (tm) version of it! It's THE next big thing. :-o

Hi, I indeed decided to workingtitle one of the Next Big Things "Ferret".

In addition to PhaseMod ( B-device ) and Resynth ( K-device ), I'm now also interested in doing PhysMod ( F-device ) the punk code way.

(and yes, I'm drunk now... meetings with certain Gurus can be quite long, cuz they aren't around in Berlin very often)

Cheers,

;) Urs

Ferret?

I don't understand one word....
:?

btw: urs, is logic the only au host or is there an alternative (to lazy to make the search myself and I am sure you have the answer in the pocket)

Hahaha,

first of all, the ferrets topic (mostly recipes for ferret sandwiches) is a running gag from osxaudio forums, that we slowly but for sure import here...

As for alternatives to Logic:

...there's free AU Instrument hosts:

RAX: http://www.grantedsw.com/rax/
SynthTest: http://www.manyetas.com/creed/

...and a some commercial ones:

Numerology (has free demo mode): http://www.five12.com/
DSP Quattro: http://www.dspquattro.com
Metro: http://www.sagantech.biz
Digital Performer: http://www.motu.com

and I know at least 2 more to come within some months.

Actually, there's a tool called iMIDI at GrantedSW (see RAX link) that you can use to route Midi out of Cubase into any other host. - A small workaround, but maybe a good opportunity to test stuff.

Cheers,

;) Urs

Will this be available as a DXi ? I would love to use this using cakewalk on Virtual PC. Boy, I can feel the fun already?

Oh yeah, what about my old C64. Will it run on that?

Hahahaha...

... well, here's a bad one, for some:

I've had some serious talk with some cool people, seeking advice on what to do.

a) I could get a pc dev to do the port once

b) I could learn pc stuff

c) I could stay mac only

d) I could merge biz with a pc guy

Now, a) has become impossible after all the truth in this article, which basically is about if you do it, do it right, then you don't need excuses. That would get me to b). Which is impossible. - Though my plug framework is cross platform, a whole lot of stuff is not (file handling, the fft I use, some AltiVec stuff). That would mean I would have to learn too much to do it right myself.

There's already a huge amount of support to be done, even if it is not bugs. You can read some of the posts in this forum. - It's impossible to write the perfect manual, and it's compelling to know that Zebra is the first synth somebody uses. - I get a lot of questions which are of general nature, but are essential for using Zebra or other stuff. I simply can't do this for pc.

That gets us well to c) which is my current choice.

Plugin development doesn't end with plugin development. It really starts first at the user. Support is a big component of that stuff and I can only offer the best support for Mac customers.

Now, things have just started. - I already get emails from people offering help, applying for jobs or internship, all that stuff. A whole lot of stuff that might be valid in a not-so-distant future. I'm already working with pc guys in some loose ways, so chance is there'll be some expansion next year (like u-he founding a real company rather than being a self employed individual). Or, I might just start a joint venture or something with a good friend or two.

All I say is, I won't make promises I can't keep. Just naively buying a pc and thinking that's enough to do a pc version is, uhm, naive. - It hasn't even worked too well for MFM, it would work really bad for such complex thing as Zebra.

If I did a pc version of Zebra now, with the limited resources and all, it wouldn't be much fun for people out there, and it would withdraw fun from my mac customers.

I prefer the 100% fun version, even if it means loosing half of the sales, half of the market whatever.

Time will tell.

So I guess that means no on the C64 version.

Post

yeah, no C64 version...

... but if you have a Mac, you can connect the C64 to the Mac via Midi, hence use your favourite sequencer (be it Pro16, SuperTrack, whatever) with Zebra!
