Modulation problem?

I've set the cutoff of a filter to be modulated by LFO1, and the rate of LFO1 is modulated via the mod wheel
moving the mod wheel however doesn't seem to have any effect on the LFO rate
am I missing something or is this a bug?
I'm using the latest Logic on the latest Leopard

Tried everything but no luck. I was actually just messing about with preset 252 (SFX Plasma Engine) in the first bank.

ah actually..
My mod wheel wasn't seen by Sylenth for some reason. That's the problem.
It worked fine in any other synth.
I tried midi learn and it didn't react, then tried it a few more times and all of a sudden it was back.
btw.. I often get cpu spikes when I change something on the UI,
and always when switching presets.

You are aware that Midi Learn uses value pickup mode in the latest version? It won't react until you hit the knob's value. Seems to me your Modwheel was linked to another Midi control.spaceman wrote:I tried midi learn and it didn't react, then tried it a few more times and all of a sudden it was back.
When you change what exactly? Are you sure those spikes are caused by Sylenth1 and not by something else?spaceman wrote:btw.. I often get cpu spikes when I change something on the UI, and always when switching presets.
Changing presets can be a bit CPU intensive because all parameters are changed at once, but it shouldn't produce spikes. Running it on a 2ghz Macbook the CPU meter doesn't seem to go above 25% or so when continuously changing presets.

for instance.. I hit midi learn before and moved the mod wheel on Sylenth and one of the cores went into the red (mod wheel actually didn't react straight away). I'll keep track of other times it happens and will get back to you with more info.Lennard wrote:When you change what exactly? btw, every time I select a preset one of the cores on my 2.4 MBP shoots to almost 70%+
[edit]
actually, I was exaggerating a bit.. it doesn't always happen, usually when I'm still playing and switching preset while playing.

AU, yes
as I said in my edited post, it's not ALL the time, just often.. probably shoots to 60% (sometimes more) and usually when still playing a few notes.
I'm just using the build in audio interface now and it seems to behave well enough. I wonder if it's to do with my Saffire LE (through firewire, which is the one I was using before)
Need to get some sleep now but I'll have a close look at this tomorrow so that I can give you some more accurate information.. because otherwise I'm probably not very helpful.

No, no stuttering or glitches.Lennard wrote:Ok thanks. Do these CPU spikes cause any audio problems like glitches or stuttering?

I did some testing too and found that only Logic sometimes displays high cpu usage when changing presets indeed. This does not happen when using the same AudioUnit in Live for example. Also, since there are no problems with the audio I think Logic may be also displaying cpu usage of low priority GUI threads or something. OSX's Activity Monitor displays a different CPU usage among the cores though, so I'm not really sure what Logic's meter is displaying exactly. So as long as there's no noticable effect of these 'spikes' you should be alright

Since version 2.0 Sylenth1 works fine in FL Studio too by the way (and any other host)kyodeejay wrote:Are you using FL Studio?

indeed, and that's the important partLennard wrote:I did some testing too and found that only Logic sometimes displays high cpu usage when changing presets indeed.
