Hi,

Do I HAVE to send a stop note to make MD stop playing? Note length would be more natural to me. It -should- be simple to take a note off as... note off. :)

Well,
I don't think note length is good for this purpose, because it is often har to edit. Moreover some hosts tend to send weird info (e.g. you jump to a middle of note and it sends it anyway).

Think of MDrummer as a human, you command him by each note. And when you say "stop" he stops. But this is NOT the only way! The most natural way is using an outro!

Nothing stopping you from assigning a key that has 'nothing' in the beat, to compensate for that 'stop'. :D That'd be the best alternative.

Though I'd prefer to sequence my own drums via MIDI, the sequences are handy to control on situations where a quick drum loop with some kind of live character is needed. :D

Huh? Did I miss the joke? You mean sending a stop not instead of a stop note?

Dunno but now i think about it, maybe implement a mode where one could toggle stop on note off, but still remain in sync with the timesig.

That reminds me, is it possible to change subdivision on timesig? (think 5/8 or 17/16) just so one doesn't need to up the tempo so much to retain a particular pattern size per measure.

Is it possible to send this command via automation?

Post

Well maybe you're right, I just don't know how it would help, because you rarely to "stop". In most cases you use outro.

Subdivision cannot be changed now. Do you think it is necessary? For most people it is not common to use 7/4, so 17/16, whau man, that's hardcode :D...

Which command would you send via automation??

It would be necessary for odd-time signatures, in terms of temposyncing and using a reasonable tempo value to go with it. At the moment, to get a desirable groove happening at 5 ticks a bar, I have to up the tempo to 240+, and of course doubling the sequenced speed makes the whole thing last for way too long before a break triggers. (I dunno, I'll play around with it some more)

Start/Stop, though that actually might not be so necessary.

You need to put tempo to 240 for 5/4 signatures?? I don't get it. I understand, that you need it for 9/8, but it is still 9/4 in double-time. This is a pretty extreme case. On the other hand it probably is possible (even if we originally did not expect this to be useful at all :-) ).

About the start/stop automation - I'd rather avoid this, because automation is just... you know... if you can live without it, the do so :-)... BUT MDrummer works with the automation - you can try enabling it, play the song and control MDrummer using the "Intro", "Break", "Play" etc. buttons. It is not very tested though and we made it just to make Groove agent users happy. And I think nobode uses it :D...
