hi michael, mkastrup wrote: At first this was ment to be a release with focus on drums but the workflow with tons of Zebra's used for drums is not that smart after all so drums will be released as a sampled kit later on.
i would love to know why? would one zebra per drum track eat too much cpu, then? i thought that it would be quite flexible to have such a synth drum machine that you can tweak in real time - as opposed to samples? or would it be too complicated, controller wise?
cheers

Well to be honest when working with drum kits the best thing is to have a setup made in advance spread out on one single keyboard. First of all there is the balance thing, then the panning, then ambience, compression etc..
Its not an CPU issue, but a question of workflow. Now i do know that some people like to tweak but the tweaking for drums is in 90% cases a EQ thing and not a synthesis thing. What matters is to have good clean material to start from, meaning material which is pure synthesis without any artifacts.
Most drum samples on the market are tampered with in some way, you may not hear that right away but when you start EQ'ing and compressing some artifacts like noise, irregular frequencies etc. shows up.
My plan with a sampled drumkit is to have a kit where you can raise any frequency to the extreme without artifacts and if you use compression the only noise you will hear is the compressor it self.
Most of my drums ideas are already in the Oldskool Soundset and i usually use it as a start of base. The sampled kit will be a perfected version of some of these setups made ready to use without any hassle.

sounds good, michael, for sure.
i have a few percussion patches where wild things happen when you use the mod wheel and/or some knobs. these might be mapped to fm operators or some characteristics of a physical model used. i thought somehting along these lines could be interesting. true, this is made more for a percussion/sound thing than for building the basic drum track.
i will check out old school.

Well I've got a theme for you if you like. You know I love early synth funk... And I'm sure Zebra can do it well with the right presets (with a little bit of dirt added in, like in Poly-Ana for instance, or even ImpOscar)mkastrup wrote:Hi tboulettetboulette wrote:To the extent this might imply a vol. 4 at some point, please allow me to be the first to say: "Woohoo!"
It would be nice to have another new theme, i'm just having trouble seeing what kinda theme it should be because atm. i just doing sounds with no purpose in mind other than having fun. But eventually something is bound to show up when i have enough of one type of presets.

So...how about an early Prince soundset? His early albums, say Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999, even Purple Rain? Each patch bearing the name of the song it comes from... just an idea...

Not a bad idea at all since it gives a clear indication of what to expect and what needs to be done.

Right. You'll have to refer to them similar to the way Jamey Aebersold refers to jazz tunes that are still in copyright, e.g.:bM3w wrote:dacaumodo wrote:So...how about an early Prince soundset? Michael, we know you can do it. Go for itJust keep in mind to never ever mention Prince or any of his songs or you get sued

Sorry, that's "I wanna be your lover". But as a consolation prize, you get one of these:bM3w wrote:"I'd like to be the person you sleep with"

I should have thought "Dirty Mind" = Unclean Soul or something...
Well in any case I'd buy the soundset in a flash. Now if you reproduced that synth solo patch on "Head"...errr... i mean "Uppermost part of the body"...
