V-Machine

Good point indeed. It doesn't really matter if it's a program/bank change or a CC controller message that triggers the V-Machine's patch/bank change as long as I'm able to directly select a patch/bank with an external midi message. If it wasn't for the long load times Dec/Inc would suffice but it seems like a very strange limitation to me.AzureCrystal wrote:On my end, when I am on a plugin which supports midi patch/bank change, I am able to directly enter a patch and/or bank change or increment/decrement no problem, maybe smpro can use one of the optional midi CC controller numbers to change the V-Machine's banks and patches, I wouldn't mess with the standard program/bank change midi cc command as it would have bad results for the individual plugins, IMHO...
Hasn't anyone else any problems with load times of several seconds when just choosing a new sound?

I think we're confusing a bit...
If I understand correctly, you can either use CC events or Program Change messages to switch to new presets, banks or plugin's internal programs. You just have to choose what you wish to switch with your ProgramChange messages. Since the VFX's preset structure is more complex than the plugin's programs, it would be wise to create a new preset for each sound we need and switch them via MIDI Program Changes, leaving the Continuous Controllers available for real-time parameters like filters, volumes, etc.

I asked AAS about their opinion concerning Tassman support on the v-machine. The answer:
"Hi Bjoern,
There is no way at the moment to use/install Tassman on the V-Machine.
We have yet to look into that, probably in the course of 2009. Thanks
for your support and patience.

Please find the link to this post. This INFO could push our discussions and speculations in an interesting direction...VFXAU wrote:
It is possible as other users have authorised plugins with this scheme, from what I was told it was done by VNC.
I think some posts in Germany mention this as well.
I will see if I can find the link to this post.
(I searched by myself, but I couldn't find a clue...)
Greetings,
Paulustus!
P.S.: I could translate the German post into English and make these INFOS valueable for this forum...

What about Sampletank 2.5.2? I'm not interested in using Sampletank SE. I'm in desperate need of a wizard for the real Sampletank plugin.VFXAU wrote:Hi,ala5t0r wrote:Errr...I formatted the V-Machine once...any tips on how I can reinstall SampleTank on it? it comes pre-installed unless something was changed by the user.
Installing Sample Tank into the PC, please follow the instructions in the FAQ page on www.smproaudio.com
We have not had any reports with issues to do with this, but if you get stuck I am happy to try and help you.Thank you!
I would download the Image file which has all the DATA for the v-machine in it and put the image on a USB stick. Put the stick in the V and it will take you back to the original.
Just a note on this, the image file does come with a program which lets you make a boot stick but I find Roadkil Image stick easier program to use. It is about a 5 minute process to load all the plugs and sample tank back into the V-Machine, Any problem let me know.

Hi,
Sure, all IK products will work, we will release the info in 2-3 days, I can confidently say this as we have it running already.
In regards to the above post with authentication which uses a hardware ID,
1. There is always the VNC method as I previously mentioned (but we don't want this to be the normal way to do things) this is where some users wrote a boot USB stick for the v-machine which makes it like a PC and then they hooked up a USB-LAN adaptor and ran it remotely to install software and authorize plugins. I cannot say I have done this myself but several people are talking about this.
2. Getting Vendor support, same as we did with IK Multimedia where they provided a special program to us that can authorise the V-Machine properly. It will not take long before others come on board as they can see the potential for the product and if users flood thier forums and website with this requests it will speed it up as well.
Thanks
Danny

You can actually plug a guitar directly into the V-Machine, it does work, I tried it with several plugins.breakbeatmonster wrote:This MIDI inc/dec thing whould be great to trigger the v-machine with "guitar-rig" or "ampeg vsx" loaded.
instrument preamp into v-machine + midi floorboard! could be a little v-padel alrady...
As far as program UP DOWN, that works as well. You can also assign the program change and value parameters to other CC commands, in the MENU you can scrol until you see the section where you can learn many commands.

Normally this would mean that this type of plug in needs hardware ID challenge responcegBeat2 wrote:same using B4...breakbeatmonster wrote:What does "Assertion Failed! ERROR FUT481" mean? I'm tring to install Pianoteq 2.2

Hmm, IMHO looking at how much is involved with importing any but the most simple of plugins, I think a better approach could be looking into using some incarnation of Wine(Linux windoze emulator) and VNC(pc-anywhere/VPN emulator) mentioned here, and somehow finding a failsafe way of setting our V-Machines as a valid PC. Then we can simply install a plugin on it(or a usb stick) like we would do on a normal machine, then we avoid anything related to looking in the registry for settings and tedious VFX file creation. I have yet to successfully import anything beyond a simple freebie plugin, and that took hours to get right, and that is me, a geek vet software developer with 20+ years in the biz !!
The current way of importing plugins is not a reasonable option for me, it could take hours just to import one commercial plugin with all the workarounds, so that got me thinking why not just install them on the v-Machine like it is a regular pc, that I think is the best solution. Maybe it can be done with a usb stick that can be configured that way ? these days you can boot right off of one set with Linux, hmm...
...And there are SO MANY commercial and free plugins out there, so where do you start when looking at building up the Wizard database, just doing the research to get one commercial plugin could take hours or days, dunno, but maybe time better spent would be looking into some software solution to make the vmachine a little pc temporarily until plugins were installed, just my 2c....
So in summary, the only two practical solutions would be: either that wizard database magically gets populated with all sorts of plugin vfx info files and we dispense with the pc thing, or we mount the vmachine or a usb stick to sit as a pc, install our beloved plugins, and return to the vmachine's native state somehow... ??? Just thinking out loud here, love the machine, but I dont have time to load my plugins using the current workarounds...

1. The plugin wizard database is growing daily
2. The Best way (fastest way) is to copy to USB stick and load from stick (you can import the bank from the stick into the internal memory as well).
3. in regards to VNC certainly an option
4. vendor support (like we have with IK) released shortly.
