For the life of me, I can't figure this out. I'm trying to get mdrummer to use a drumkit off of proteus vx in reaper.

Here is what i've tried:

Load up an fx chain, load up mdrummer and after it load up proteus vx.

I then set up a midi output filter and start simple. I set up bass drum filter to a key and snare filter to a key.

I test this out in rhythm generator and I don't recieve any sound. I must be missing something fundamental hear. Any help would be great.

Happy holidays,

Hey guys this more of a question for you, the big reaper professionals ;-).

Hasan what you need to do is to attach MIDI output of MDrummer to MIDI input of the plugin you want MDrummer to attach to. In Cubase it is just one switch, but I don't know about reaper. I'll check, but it would be probably faster if someone else knows. So guys do you know? :D

create a track w/ mdrummer on it.get it set up how you like,pattern/groove/song whatever.create another track w/ your vsti to be driven by mdrummer.set the in/out on the vsti to recieve midi (channel 10) from the mdrummer track on its input channel.the in/out section on your vsti track should look like this:
recieve from (mdrummer)
pre fader (post fx)
audio-none = 1/2 midi-10 =1

Thanks! It mostly works! I now need help getting the mapping right. I can hear some sounds and not others and the ones I hear aren't mapped properly (I know I have to do it myself).

How do I get a mdrummer bass drum to correspond to my external vsti bassdrum?

Not sure I can do this in rhythm generator, I had to use rhythm editor as it was running more drum parts.

Cheers,
Hasan

Hi Hasan,
just use the Output MIDI filter in Globals section. If you won't understand it, I'll explain.

Cheers!

Hi Vojtech,
That's what I'm having trouble figuring out. Man, I suck.

Post

Heh no problem, I'll explain:

MIDI output filter means : "When there is a note on particular drum, what MIDI note it should generate?"
So the output filter contains a drum type editors, when you select for example bass drum. Then you can edit velocity envelope, which is not so useful in this case. But there are also multiple MIDI keyboard edits on the right. So you enable one and click on MIDI key you want bass drum to trigger.
That's probably all.

The MIDI output filter is designed to do much more complicated stuff, but in this case I guess you need just a few clicks.

Okay,
After a bit of trial and error I got it to work a little bit, but I do have some problems still:

1. My keyboard C2 corresonds to mdrummer's keyboard C4. I have an 88 key midi keyboard, so I don't think the problem is on my end. I have verified with a vsti's onboard keyboard and it checks out on my end.

2. Sampletank worked fine, but using proteus vx, the mdrummered triggered proteus vx only some of the time. However, when triggered (using the offset I discovered) the right drum sound played.

Should I move these to a specific bug thread?

Post

Ouky douky so:

1) This is more of a terminology. We use numbering octaves from 0 to 8 (I guess). But often it is numbered from -2 to 6.

2) There may a problem with note length. Maybe proteus omits some notes. I'll check when possible.

I think this thread is ideal for this.

Okay, the same problem with proteusvx also occurs with the freeware drum sampler grizzly.

I hear you on the terminology issue, however my concern is that now there is a keyboard length mismatch between the user and mdrummmer, where I fear that there is not enough keys remaining on to capture the rest of the keys.

Sampletank has no issue with being played by mdrummer and it's keyboard terminology is the same as mdrummers, yet there is a two octave difference between them on the virtual keyboard. Perhaps something to resolve.

A feature request. Is it possible, when pressing a key on the real keyboard, to have the corresponding key light up in the mdrummer midi filter keyboard.

Also, is it also possible to have the mdrummer keyboard transmit data when the note is selected to ensure that the drum you selected corresponds with the mapping you have assigned it to? For example, I select a mapping for bass drum. I click on the mdrummer keyboard note which sends midi output to my vsti and then I can hear what sound is triggered by the vsti.

Cheers,
Hasan

Well, I check for the number of octaves, thought it was ok, maybe not.

About your two features - why not ;-). Added to to-do list.

FR: Ability to remap the rhythm loops' keys/octave range. On standard use, the middle of the keyboard plays the outro patterns, leaving the right side of the keyboard empty.

Post

Yes, but there is one catch - we don't know if the upper octaves won't be used for something else in the future. Moreover if the mapping would be configurable, it can make some true mess. I don't know if this is really a good idea :? .
