I said it... all my plugins :)
lol, indeed, you did. :D Excuse my ignorance, I'm quite new to this forum.

Would you mind explaining then how to get the v-machine to use the plugins on the usb stick? I appreciate all the help I can get as I would like to use the V-machine live during a gig this sunday.

Thanks in advance!

My V wish list (if anyone has a cure for these, wow !!)

- Rhino

- AbSynth

- M42 Nebula
(to be honest I have not yet attempted to import this, but it is not freeware so I assume it won't work and I don't have the time to find out, hehehe !!)

I have others I haven't tried, but those three would be great !

...I'm trying to install TruePianos and I think the install process was OK because I can see the red light flashing on the USB stick that indicates that the plugin is loading the sampledata into memory, but it will freeze the V-Machine because starts with a pop-up windows (for the license) that can't be clicked. And I wasn't able to find out where it stores the licensing files or reg. keys. I tried to run Process Monitor to see which files and registry keys it loads and, if I well understand, it stores the license info in a protected key inside the registry. Too tricky to do without the developer's help. I sent them an email...
Yes ZioKiller, the same on my machne. TruePianos seems to load from USBkey and hangs.

If I start the TruePianos and monitors, it looks it will try to connect to a server for registration..although I have a legal copy

I used the tools to monitor the application and at this moment I've only this on my key:

Big deciding factor is: will my favourite plug-in work?

For theatre and sound effects I use Cakewalk's free...

My sincere hope is that this little box gets stable soon without being overloaded with "featureitis". Leave that for the rack version, I say.

What do I need in a portable live-gig box? Stable, easy-to-use, robust. And quiet. (muffle that fan!)

Most plugins are multi-timbral and have effects built-in, sfz.exe is no exception. I doubt I will need more than one plugin working at a time.

The thought of having all my sounds in a little box like this is a dream come true. I have used AKAI samplers up 'til now.

YES we will be working here hard...

SFZ works anyway, I use it myself it is great, reasonable sound font player. We also have some other which are being released shortly. With SFZ put the SF2 file you want to use in a Directory under the plug, then when you set up the preset in the VFX application, load the sound and patch you want, then hit save, it will do a VST CHUNK save which will then automatically load all the details you have on the screen when you load this preset on the V-machine.

I would then save this bank onto a STICK and import it. I have been using SFZ for months.

Start V-Machine in Learn Mode, then start the VFX application
From the VFX Application you can Format the V-Machine if you want.

Then you can save to V-Machine in the VFX application the complete PLUGS and BANKS (to a USB stick) and then you can copy the banks back into the V-Machine as you wish.

One thing to note, please make sure your Sample Tank Directory is "IK SAMPLETANK 2 SE" so rename is if it is not, please follow the FAQ to add teh TXT reference file to the stick as well so you can load sample tank and it's registrations back into the machine.
Thanks for the respons,

Right:
- I just formated the vmachine following your instructions.
- I created a directory "IK SAMPLETANK 2 SE" on my USB key.
- IN Vfx Application rightclick on the orange icon (left from menu) > Machine > Export Machine > clik OK to the dir on USBkey
- In the dir on my USB key I find the directorie 'banks' (with all those sample folders)
- In the dir on my USB key I find the directorie 'plugs' and in 'plugs' (with all the vfxinfo.txt)

I started the vmachine, it display's:
No Banks to Load
Preset 0
No Plugin

I putted the USBkey in place, and got the message:
Device connected
Please Wait...

and immediately:

Loading Preset 0
Please Wait...

and again:

No Banks to Load
Preset 0
No Plugin

I'm still smiling so anyone please give me some support.

Best regards,
Marco
When the V-machine loads and then you put your stick inside just select the next bank.. (the < > Menu) same as you would before, you will see the Stick Bank names with [ ] around them, then when you find the bank you want to import then import it [Menu]Left click, Import bank.

Also, I see you changed the name on the stick before loading the information into the stick... You need to change the directory after, not before. ( I am not sure how you can change it before if it has no files on the stick) maybe just an error in your list of tasks above ...

appel wrote:Yep, great holiday indeed!

I can't for the life of me figure out how to import from USB stick. Synchronizing with the VFX application hardly works - mostly the dll files aren't copied (V-machine reports 'Couldn't find DLL'). ala5t0r was kind enough to explain how to set-up a plugin via an USB stick, but I can't find the menu option to actually import the plugins. Current firmware: 1.120081212b Any help is greatly apprectiated!

I would also like to know this: is there any way you can browse the contents of the V-machine directly through Explorer? Perhaps with a linux filesystem driver:
http://www.fs-driver.org/extendeddl.html

Thanks in advance!

Firmware 1212b
When the V-Machine is loaded and running, you insert the USB stick and it detects the Stick
On the V-Machine, Select Menu <> (both together)
Then one Left Click (again ont he menu keys < )

You will see the IMPORT BANK etc feature.

For Sample Tank please follow the instructions on the forum so you are succesfull.

I have a nagging feeling you may be right, so to Danny and all the guys sweating on our posts, HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY !!!

Fan Noise.. In an earlier post I said that the design had to witstand heat of upto 50c and that is how we test it, (in an oven, serious!!!) and it was designed for Live use more then anything else.

I will try to rest for at least one day :-)
We have important tasks to finish before NAMM..
If any of you are coming will be happy to meet with you, Booth is 6809, I will be there, at least in spirit anyway.

All of you, have a great Holiday

100's of plugins don't need any wizard files as they just work on thier own, the easiest method is to put them on a stick and try them in the PLUGIN PARADE.

Thanks VFXAU for your reply. When I go to the menu and go left I only see this:

I managed to get my Hammond plugin working without importing, which is just fine! Now I only need to run my GMedia M-Tron plugin and we are officially set for Sunday... :D Does anyone have any pointers as to how to set up the M-tron with flute.cpt? I own the older version which I bought a few years ago.

Here's the vfxinfo.txt file generated by the vfx application:

Code: Select all

id: 1297371726
dll_name: MTron/MTron.dll
name: M-Tron
is_synth: 1
parameter_count: 8
program_count: 1
has_editor: 1
editor_width: 816
editor_height: 244
I guess all i need now are the presets, but I'm pretty much clueless as to how to generate those.

AzureCrystal wrote:Hi Danny;
Thanks in advance for any help or insight, I do have a question for you or anyone who knows the answer, I'm a little confused about the use of the VFX Info file;

What I understand is that the VFX software reads that file to know what files and directories to copy over to the /documents and settings/user... etc.../vxf directory, and what registry settings are needed. Does the actual V-Machine read and require that file ? If the files are in the right place they were in the plugins original directory before importing, would it work ??

For instance, I did a simple import of a demo plugin that does have a number of subdirectories with wave files in them, copied the subdirs into the plugs subdirectory that VFX created unto my usb stick, the V-Machine found the plugin and it played with no issues, and I know it had to have found the subdirectories becuse this particular plugin uses those samples to make sounds... I did not edit the VFX info file so I know those directories were not listed in there, therefore my question, I am a little confused as to what exactly gets read by the hardware, and if it reads that file at all ??

Any insight will be greatly appreciated, I am writing software to automate the building of a VFX Info file and more info on this file will help !!
Only the vfx app uses the files and dirs to copy commands, it uses these to put the required files into the one folder to be sent to the vmachine. Once on the vmachine those two commands are not needed by the vmachine, however please use them because then the created vfxinfo file can be sent to other people to save them the work of creating one and moving files manually.

The plugin then needs to know where to find the files and a plugin can use a number of methods to find out where its files are stored.

1. located in the same folder as the DLL
2. stored in the registry.
3. stored in a INI file next to the plugin dll.
4. stored in a INI file under the users local settings folder.
5. the plugin makes assumptions and does not store the info.

To link the needed files back up you then need to use symlinks and registry keys, also check for INI files which may be called anything.

This is why getting the plugin vendor to create the vfxinfo files is the best solution as they will know what is needed to be done and wont take them much time at all.

hope that helps

Did you plug the stick in? after you boot up the V-Machine?
It must be inserted in order for the IMPORT function to appear.
