Last post before i lock myself up in my room to finish this skin. Turn out editing the labels wasn't as difficult as i tought, it's doable to edit just about anything in the textfile. I updated the image in the first post, so you can see what i'm going for. Reload the page if you can't see it. I'm not sure i'm going to keep the color-coded components, i'm affraid it might be too much of a Dark Horse ripoff :? And i might change the way the components are labeled.

Anyway, you'll see it in a couple days/weeks. Untill then :)

In before the *lock?

I love what I'm seeing so far, and I hope you keep the color-coded components; they're my favorite thing (besides the absence of distracting stripes) about Dark Horse. (My problem with Dark Horse is only that the stylized component labels are too eclectic, so the whole interface ends up looking dis-unified...)

i might even have a go :P
Subz
I'd love to have a go too, but it seems a bit daunting right now (I don't have much time on my hands) and I think I'll wait until Polybius and others have "gotten a handle on it" ;).

Nice start, Polybius, BTW!

Please keep color-coding modules - looks good! Not a rip-off because it's been done before in other plugs.

Allright me hearties! I'm done for now, and i'm looking for guinea pigs to put this skin to the test. Here's a couple screens:

Skin can be downloaded here:
http://users.telenet.be/bogaard/temp/sw ... onskin.zip

Please leave feedback here, or mail me: linebender@telenet.be

Perticular feedback i'm looking for:
- Do the colors of the modules make somewhat sense?
- Any showstoppers that'll turn my cheecks red?
- Is it somewhat easy on the eyes?
- Anything else you might think of...

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
--------------------------
PC:
1. Make sure you have Zebra 2.3 (latest version)
2. Unzip the folder "switchedonskin.zip" to: Support -> Themes
3. Now you should have a "Switched On" folder in the same directory as the "Unempty Dark Horse" folder.
4. Start up your host, and right-click on the "Zebra2" graphic, "Switched On" should appear in the drop-down list. Or you could click on the "Look" button and choose "Switched On" from there.

MAC:
since i don't own a Mac, could anyone with a Mac brave enough try to install this skin, and post instructions here?

Enjoy!

P.S. I'm without a comp starting tomorrow morning (upgrading my CPU), so i won't be able to respond to any feedback untill thuesday evening (hopefully) or wednesday the latest.

Nice smooth skin, Polybius : i will try it and let you know.
Thank you for sharing !

Looks wonderful -- really, like the Zebra skin I've always dreamed of making myself if I had any talent for this sort of thing. I'm happy to install and try out during the next couple of days.

One preliminary point based on the screenshots: I'd like a slightly darker background/frame in the audio module grid, because the white signal-flow lines are difficult to see against the light gray color you're currently using.

For me:
- Brushed background has a bit too much "glare" and is too brown
- Tab-switch buttons: not enough contrast
- Main grid: Connecting lines too light, rectangles too strong
- Module names: too large, wrong font

other than that it looks pretty good!

Wot no stripes??!!

Thanks for the feedback! I'll fix whatever i can tonight, the rest will be done by the weekend. Here's the details:
- Adding a "beta" watermark on the perform page untill the skin is 100% done and approved. I'll try to please as much people as possible.
- Less glare and less brown: easily done (i kind of like the brown tough :()
- Grid connecting lines: Thanks for pointing this out, this one went over my head! Easily fixed (RGBA value in script).
- Fonts for the modules: This is a little tricky, because for example in "OSC 1", the "OSC" is a graphic, and the "1" is a label in the skin's script. I'll see what i can do. I agree that the font is too large tough, i'll try matching the skin's font with the label's font (Vera).
- Howard, can you explain what you mean by the Tab-switch buttons?

Thanks again for putting me on the right track everyone!

I'm getting a corrupt header flag when I try to unzip this... :(

(I like the large module labels -- easier to spot at a glance the module you want...)

Cleared my browser cache and tried again; it's good now.
And- I like it :) Nice job!

I like it for the most part but several things catch the eye:
1. knobs are not round, they are round of course, but no perfect - looks slipshod
2. logo is to garish and bright
3. left and right buttons for patch switching don't suit the skin theme
4. maybe you should try to change the modules name font

As I said, I like the overall theme feeling: serious, cool metal thing. Great work.
Sorry if I am very carping. 8)

Not at all! Thanks for the feedback!

I fixed the following:
- Less glaring, i have to admit it's easier on the eyes now.
- Mod matrix lines are much clearer now.
- A teensie bit less brown.

If you don't feel like downloading again, take a look at this screen:

But another thing has come up now. By taking away the glare of the main panel, there seems to be too much glare on the modules, i'm going to try to take away the glare on the modules alltogether, i have to admit it's tough to find the perfect balance between readability/useability and eyecandy.

Next update is going to be the final release, i'll try to take into account as much as your suggestions as possible. I'm not posting any screens and alternate versions anymore because i'm affraid that's going to be confusing for all of us.

Final release hopefully next weekend, in the meantime, i hope i get my upgraded rig back as soon as possible, and i'll keep checking this thread for suggestions.

Seeya!
