Combosister organ seems to be a really good emulation of the vintage organ. It reproduces the right sound of farfisa and Vox continental.

Theses organ have been widly used by many Pop groups and in the early 70's they were introduced to Middle east music and they were till the late 90'S realy the STAR, and the instrument that made the most beautiful solos.

The farfisa VIP 500 & VIP 600 and the viscount INTERCONTINENTAL were the most used combo organ.

I noticed that the microtuning possibilities of that vst are limited to master tuning.
I think that future upgrade would incorporate microtuning and scale tuning as these features will permit playing all the exotic scales.

Happy New Year, Luigi. I have a memory of you speculating once that because the underlying tone-generation technology of transistor combo organs and the classic string machines of the 70s are closely related, an updated Combo Sister might incorporate strings and make it like a hybrid of those vintage technologies under one roof. Am I off base here either in my memory or understanding? Anyway, microtuning would be very cool. Combo sister remains my favorite VST organ. And I love that middle eastern pop, so thanks to zeidoun for posting. Another great use of the transistor organ as lead is in Ethiopian pop.

hi john, yes I had that idea but a true strings machine plugin is coming now and it features a much better phase sync between oscillators, very important for that solina sound. I think it's better to keep Combo Sister for organs only so it's clear what it does. Thanks for the nice comments.

Very cool. I just brought it up as I was reminded of it by the talk about Combo Sister. I look forward to the strings machine and whatever the future holds for CS.

Hi,
Those early combo organs I should think had separate oscillators for the top octave. Only the lower notes were fed by dividers so octave intervals were in phase sync - the other intervals are free phase. These organs could be tuned to any 12tone temperament.

When String Machines were developed, Top Octave chips running from just one master oscillator were available and all their intervals are thus phase synced. I don't know if top octave chips came in any other than Western equal temperament. Maybe the earliest string machines that Ken Freeman built had separate oscillators for the top octave?

I'm in no doubt that the difference in the way chords sound between either phase synced and phase locked intervals are significant, and should be modelled accordingly. ;)

Anyway, I've found Combo Sister really shines when treated to the right kind of signal path - at least a valve combo amp and FX of the day for the experimental/psychedelic sounds from the late 60's thru early 70's.
